ASHEVILLE - Vandals struck Little Pigs Bar-B-Que this week with spray-painted messages against animal violence.

When manager Bob Conner got to the McDowell Street restaurant early Tuesday morning, he found two catering vans covered in graffiti messages like "murderer" and "stop killing us - 3 pigs."

The vandals also broke windows in a van and the main building.

The initials "ALF" painted on one of the vans made restaurant workers think of the Animal Liberation Front.

ALF is a loosely organized animal rights group that encourages breaking the law to keep people from harming animals, according to its Web site.

Asheville police Capt. Tom Aardema said he did not think the group was involved. The police took a report, but they are not actively investigating the case, he said.

Little Pigs has four restaurants in the Asheville area. Owner Carr Swicegood said the restaurants had never experienced this kind of vandalism.

"I don't know who did it," Swicegood said.

According to a police report, Conner told them three recently fired employees could be the suspects.
