Riverside on the James

Parking really isn't too bad down there but it will take folks a few trips to get used to it. For Friday Cheers I actually parked in the lot on 12th Street across from the Omni for $1 and took the Canal walk down to Brown's Island. It was a short, leisurely stroll and would be even shorter for people going to ROTJ.

Wouldn't it be nice if Venture Richmond ran a couple of its canal boats between Friday Cheers and Blackfinn. They've got a fleet of at least four and never use more than two at any given time. Why not move a couple to Haxall?

If any of you ever take the canal tour, I hope you get "Cotton" as your guide. He knows my idea of shifting a pair of boats upstream has merit!

ric75, is there dancing and entertainment offered with the cover charge, or is it more a sports bar meet-up kind of place? Was it well-attended last night at its pre-opening? How about parking?

According to Coupe, word is that Blanc Bleu will open in the Power Plant before the end of the year.

Thanks for the report.

Now, go and try out Capital Ale House when its Music Hall opens tonight. :)

According to a Will Jones story in a December '06 issue of the RTD, BLANC BLEU is described thusly:

220 seats featuring bistro menu with a French flair. "It will have a dramatic interior with white upholstery, arches, mirrors, crystal chandeliers and sheer curtains" according to Jody Pennette of CB5 Restaurant Group.

I heard that one of the entrances will be thru the base of the tall smoke stack.

I believe the CB5 folks actually own this building now... it'll be interesting to see how things go. Their excuse seems like a smug way of saying they couldn't pull it off... people flock to the newest, hippest, (pick your adjective) restaurant in this town just like any other.

Too bad the retail in this project has been more than a disappointment... and not that it's all the developer's fault either... it's an island, literally and figuratively, especially until Alcoa moves along.

Breaking news -- they are hanging a huge "For Sale" banner on the huge red building that appears to be part of the Reynolds complex!!! CBRE is apparently handling the sale judging from the banner. The sign is very visible from the downtown expressway.

If anybody on here is interested in buying this property and finally completing Richmond's canal walk you can call 804-320-5500.
