Shaw is named after Henry Shaw who created the Missouri Botanical Gardens on the western edge of the neighborhood and owned most the land that is now Shaw. When electric powered streetcars arrived in the late 1880s the neighborhood boomed by the mid 1920s most of the neighborhood was developed. Today Shaw is home to 8,243 residents.

Entrance to Tower Grove park at Tower Grove and Magnolia.

Tower Grove Park is named after Shaw's Mansion located in the Botanical Gardens.
