FINAL REPORT: Metropolitan Center Report

It was an honor working with such a creative group as those that populated the Metropolitan Center Steering Committee. Special thanks to Mr. Brian Helder for his work in mediating the Conceptualization Charrettes and for completing the Metro Center renderings.

Please note that as of the May 7, 2005 MBEI Board of Directors Meeting, the Metro Center Steering Committee was directed by the Board to defer contacting Mr. Donald Trump and other world-class developers until the Committee has been reconstituted as the Committee for the Planning of a World-Class Downtown. It is their concern that the connection to Trump and the others not be used until the new Committee completes its next development concept - one that will not be so far down the process timeline of the City like the current Fulton/Division project is.

PREFACE:

The President of Michigan Black Expo, Inc. (MBEI) and members of the UrbanPlanet-Grand Rapids internet forum were expressing recently how they were disenchanted by the relative lack of vision (and height) in all of the proposals that were submitted for the SW corner of the region

Rizzo,

We sent it to every news agency. We'll see if they work it into the city commission meetings choice and if they plan on even taking our advice.

Joe

metrogrkid, did you send a press release to all the major news agencies around here? This needs some press!

As a sidenote, this is only the first of many proposals that will come from this committee. The next project is almost on the drawing board. :) If you want to get involved in our grand vision for downtown, contact MetroGRKid . Big things can be accomplished when people put their minds together and show what a world-class city can look like.

This is an awesome building! But what are the chances that we will ever see it. Isnt there already a project chosen for that corner or is it still up in the air? If it is too late, is there a plan to put a project like this in another part of the downtown area?

Thanks for that, Joe. As a little amendment to that though, to any of you UrbanPlanet-GR forumers out there that want to participate in the next project, please send your contact information (Name, Contact Phone, Email Address) and a snipet about your interest in helping us expand the vision of downtown GR to: [email protected]. Thanks and let's get busy!

  • 7 months later...

Whatever happened to the Monroe project? :whistling: I haven't heard anything for months...

The network over at MBEI crashed awhile back. Metrogrkid's been pulling his hair out trying to get it all running again. He hasn't been on the forum recently, and I'm assuming he's still working on it. So, the project has been delayed indefinitely...
