More information about the redevelopment of Sharon United Methodist "ski slope church".  Two 12 story apartment buildings, 88,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, and a 175 room hotel.  Demolition and construction will start immediately with the first apartment building being finished in spring 2020 and the whole project planned to be complete by spring 2021.

Yes just getting started apparently next to the existing Marriott on Rexford Rd.

ZOM apartments next to the mall is erecting a crane onsite today.  This property is moving fast. 

Construction in the Legion taproom is moving at a very fast pace.  The site is abuzz every morning before 7am with many workers onsite

Mixed feelings... On the one hand, "Yay a crane!" On the other hand, boo! our epic skyline shot from Sharon Towers is now severely compromised for the foreseeable future.

Two twelve story buildings, yes! This means they wont be stick built. Honestly I think the standard outside of Uptown should be >5 floors if we want to develop any sort of density, any sort of single family construction should be town homes (would that make them multifamily? They didn't teach me that in school) and freestanding homes should be either banned, or highly discouraged.

Single family housing is NOT going away in Charlotte and I have NO desire to leave my single family home for a condo or townhome.  Increasing home prices in the area will cause more people to consider multifamily housing but even in the most expensive cities in America NYC,  San Fran and LA there are plenty of single family homes.  

In terms of SouthPark area infill new SF houses maybe built but mainly all the housing is attached townhomes or mid rise apartment towers due to increasing land prices.

Saw this sign today.  Looks like rendering changed.  To my eye, it looks shorter, with cheaper materials than originally planned.

Note:  the "open during construction" is related to existing Marriott hotel next to construction site.

New Canopy by Hilton 150 room hotel will join Southpark area at 6010 Fairview next to the new under construction Liberty's The Barclay at Southpark a large assisted living and senior apartment tower.   So 2 new hotels underway in SouthPark the AC by Marriott on Rexford Rd and now this one.

Excerpt:

In addition to providing guests with a comfortable setting for their stays, it should also have plenty to offer for locals. On the ninth floor, just above the tree canopy, AC Hotel will feature the neighborhood’s first rooftop bar.

Hopefully, this establishment will offer a full menu, ample outdoor seating to soak in the lush canopy of South Charlotte, and, from certain spots, direct sightlines to Uptown. Imagine the view from the Nordstrom parking deck, only from nearly 100 feet above ground.

Hey the Business Insider article referenced by @ricky_davis_fan_21 fan mentioned a July 2018 start for The Colony redevelopment.  I seem to recall it being delayed, but don't remember details.  Does anyone else know when it will get started?  Hopefully they aren't waiting for Apex SouthPark to be built out and filled up first.

I was renting in the Colony last fall and according to the leasing agents, they heard it was pushed back to Summer 2019 at the earliest and were still doing year leases in November 2017.  I am no longer in there so I haven't heard if they are still doing year leases this summer or not.

Per my somewhat reliable college age neighbor the Colony is telling prospective tenants that they can’t guarantee  year long leases at this time.
