not sure the agreement they may have gotten the money or the new building for free.  Not sure but it was a complex deal.

I heard that REI has pulled out of the Colony Redevelopment and the only things moving forward for now is the Publix, Lifetime Fitness, and Multifamily. (I didn't even know REI had signed....)

There were rumors of a smaller Target opening in Cotswold a couple of years ago. I guess it either wasn’t true or plans were dropped. It is surprising that Target hasn’t opened a store in this area yet.

Charlotte's 2nd downtown Southpark.  Whoever said things like apartments look better in Southpark was right.  Apex and the Zom living apartments on Barclays Down.  Today.

saw this display in the mall. 

and noticed this new sign atop the Southpark Towers.  Now signs atop high rises is spreading everywhere.

I'm also impressed by the number of tall buildings seen in downtown Charlotte in the background of that picture from 1966!

Drove into Apex Southpark today.  Wow this is great project kudos to Childress Klein for pulling this complicated project off.  2 nine story apartment towers joined by parking deck shared and wrapped by 88,000 sq ft retail and the hotel and the church.  Basically 5 separate buildings.  Without all the signage up I had to find my way around but this is a project the likes you see in the DC suburbs or in Buckhead or Dallas.  

Today. Only Steak 48 and Tiff's Cookies are open maybe some of the apartments I could not tell.  the Church is open as well.

No 15 story high rise apartment tower by Dominion across from Southpark Mall the Charlotte Ledger reports. 

""Plans for a 15-story apartment tower across from SouthPark Mall have been scuttled, with the developer saying another buyer made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.  Dominion Realty Partners had announced 365 apartments on the site of an old Fifth Third Bank branch across Fairview Road from the Nordstrom entrance to SouthPark Mall. It successfully had the land rezoned for the tower in June.  But after the rezoning went through, Dominion CEO Andy Andrews says, HomeTrust Bank swooped in and offered to buy the property with plans to convert the old bank branch into … a new bank branch."""

and no it is not a 5/3 branch but Home Trust Bank from Asheville.

How much did the property sell for?  Considering what was going to be built there, seems like it would probably be incredibly expensive for just a bank branch.

Thats what I was thinking.  Prime location, "offer he couldn't refuse", at a time when banks are contracting....maybe a regional office thing like the SunTrust on Sharon?  If they just wanted to open another branch, why wouldn't they take the Wells Fargo space on Sharon across from mall?

2  of SouthPark's major projects The Colony and Apex Southpark and a couple general shots.  Plus the Zom Living apartments on Barclay Downs.  

Not wanting to beat a dead horse but remember a discussion about Nashville seeming to have many more projects than Charlotte.  Well in the last 1 year there have been 5 major projects in Southpark underway or completed but all were in this one thread.

The Barclay at Southpark and it the Canopy hotel there.  This vacant land would be a good site for some apartments above retail not sure what is planned there.

saw this old ad on Facebook advertising the BRAND new homes of Beverly Woods.  this neighborhood started at $19,000 back then in the 1960s. 

These are selling from $375,000 to over $600K today!   Just checked.  One like the "Tara" model featured just sold for $577,000 for real.  Owning real estate has always been a good LONG term  investment.
