Plans for a Charlotte Zoo

To be honest, people weren't that safe around Eastland Mall in the past. Animals would require around the clock security. Additionally, Eastland is not a convenient spot for those that would visit a zoo if they don't have a car.  Many city zoos (especially in Europe) are within walking distance from city centers since that is where you find tourists and visitors. The ideal spot would be near Midtown/Thompson Orphanage area. In addition, that area could be modified to encourage foot traffic from Uptown and Midtown and points between. It is better to have a zoo that is central than one that is a destination out of the center of the city.  Perhaps Marshal Park or 1st Ward Park areas could be modified to house a small zoo?  One final idea, maybe we could have a "rescue zoo" for animals that are rescued from individuals, other zoos, or international sources. Who doesn't love rescued animals? I would like to refer ZooWorld in Panama City Beach, Florida. It is a perfect small zoo, It has 390 animals and 259 species of plants on display. It is a very nice family atmosphere and it is all on 6 acres of land. Look it up.

Why would Charlotte let an aquarium in a discount mall in the suburbs stop it from opening up an urban aquarium (thinking along the lines of Chattanooga?) if that's what they (or someone) wanted to do?

Although the aquarium is in a very busy place that isn't exactly in a suburb, it would have been much wiser if it had been placed uptown for tourists. Since thousands of visitors and fans are in the area where the aquarium is now housed for the nascar events, it would have been wiser to have the nascar museum there. A location swap would be great.

You would need a lot of land for a zoo, which would cost too much to build a zoo and operate it.  Large animals need lots of space and food.

Picture I bought in Kenya.

That is Elsa, the most famous (Real) lion ever. "Born Free" main character and the author and artist is Joy Adamson of the book and fame her own self.

Is this still a thing? Will Charlotte ever get a zoo? Or a real aquarium?? Asking for the bored residents.

With the right millionaire or corporate sponsorship to endow the zoo with land that provides adequate space for the animals and the right expertise to take care of the animals, anything is possible. Unfortunately a city funded zoo with taxpayer funding is unlikely.

Maybe the Levines or Dee-Dee Harris might want to sponsor a zoo? They both have some land needing to be filled with an attraction.
