Walnut Commons to break ground in downtown Chattanooga

Groundbreaking is slated Thursday at 10:30 a.m. for Walnut Commons, a 100-unit, $11 million apartment building at Walnut Street and Aquarium Way. The long-delayed apartment complex in downtown Chattanooga would be the biggest built in for the central city in a generation, officials have said. Little Miss Mag Early Learning Center is to be an anchor to the ground floor of the building.

Walnut Commons was proposed in 2006. But land negotiations, the financial meltdown and delays associated with HUD combined to stall construction on the 1.5-acre tract.

Little update here, first story is completed and beginning to move up. Construction is slow, they aren't using prefabricated pieces but instead are framing it one piece of wood at a time. I'll try to take some pics and get them uploaded
