Wow!  Really 274 acres? What are the minimum land reqs for schools in Davidson? Looks mostly wooded. Conservation easement doesn’t apply here but any commitment from MNPS to keep the remaining land undeveloped? Or is that slated for a park?

It used to be a church, the undeveloped land has trails and such. It's very hilly but could support a subdivision like Saddle Ridge. Given that Metro is moving Hillwood HS six miles away from Hillwood expressly to sell the high-value land and pad their budget I wouldn't expect them to keep this for long. I missed the public meetings though so not sure what they promised.

Metro was recently awarded the maximum grant allowed from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) from the 'FAST ACT'. The Metro resolution approving acceptance of the grant and its conditions (Per development tracker);

A resolution approving a Cooperative Agreement by and between the Federal Highway Administration United States Department of Transportation (FHWA), the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), and the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, acting by and through its Department of Public Works, for the Charlotte Avenue/Dr. Martin L King, Jr Blvd Transit Headways and Congestion Management Project to be executed under the Advanced Transportation and Congestion Management Technologies Deployment (ATCMTD) initiative. PIN 131476.00. (Proposal No.2021M-015AG-001.)

WHEREAS, Section 6004 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act authorizes the Secretary of Transportation to use funds made available for the Highway Research and Development Program and the Intelligent Transportation Systems Program to provide grants to eligible entities to develop model deployment sites large scale installation and operation of advanced transportation technologies to improve safety, efficiency, system performance and infrastructure return on investment; and,

WHEREAS, Metro Nashville has requested that the FHWA enter into an agreement to develop a model deployment site for large scale installation and operation of advanced transportation technologies project entitled “CHARLOTTE AVENUE/DR. MARTIN L KING, JR BLVD TRANSIT HEADWAYS AND CONGESTION MANAGEMENT described in Attachment A to Exhibit A; and,

WHEREAS, the FHWA approved the proposal and determined the proposal to be eligible for participation in the program; and,

WHEREAS, this project will continue the implementation of backbone communication infrastructure for advanced traffic operations as a prerequisite for active traffic management, transit signal priority, signal performance measures as well as future connected vehicle opportunities as technology advances and expands.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY: Section 1. That the Cooperative Agreement with the FHWA and TDOT, attached hereto as Exhibit A, is hereby approved, and the Metropolitan Mayor is authorized to execute the same. Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect from and after its final passage, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.

The FAST Act requires the Secretary to develop criteria for selection of an eligible entity to receive a grant, including how the proposed deployment of technology will—

• reduce costs and improve return on investments, including through the enhanced use of existing transportation capacity;
• deliver environmental benefits that alleviate congestion and streamline traffic flow;
• measure and improve the operational performance of the applicable transportation network;
• reduce the number and severity of traffic crashes and increase driver, passenger, and pedestrian safety;
• collect, disseminate, and use real-time traffic, transit, parking, and other transportation-related information to improve mobility, reduce congestion, and provide for more efficient and accessible transportation;
• monitor transportation assets to improve infrastructure management, reduce maintenance costs, prioritize investment decisions, and ensure a state of good repair;
• deliver economic benefits by reducing delays, improving system performance, and providing for the efficient and reliable movement of goods and services; or
• accelerate the deployment of vehicle-to-vehicle, vehicle-to-infrastructure, autonomous vehicles, and other technologies. [23 U.S.C. 503(c)(4)(B)]

The FAST Act requires the Secretary to request applications each fiscal year and to award grants to at least 5 and not more than 10 eligible entities, and further requires that the awards be diverse in both the technologies to be deployed and geographically. [23 U.S.C. 503(c)(4)(D)]

This is hopefully just the start. Perhaps the city will consider using artificial intelligence to operate the system!!

Good to see they're keeping the wall, but I have the same concerns as with Giarratana's Alcove tower on Church with that stone wall... how long will it hold the earth behind it? If it were to shift or collapse, then what would that do to the building?  More of a concern with this project than with the tower.  I'm sure the pilings will keep the building from being compromised, but the road behind the wall looks very iffy!

Sometime in the last two weeks or so, it would seem that the intersection of Centennial and 51st has been changed, though not in the way I was expecting. They created a slip lane for turning right when approaching southbound on 51st Ave N. This would probably mostly benefit oil trucks, I would imagine. The crosswalk is therefore now split into two legs with the triangular island in between. I'll try to grab a photo. I didn't see any other changes to the intersection at a glance.

Agreed. Speaking of concrete: I wonder what impact the dramatic surge in lumber prices has had in building cost calculus for concrete vs timber for the ubiquitous 3 - 6 story apartment/condo construction?

Tuck-Hinton is the architect, with I.C. Thomasson Assoc. handling engineering, and Skanksa serving as the contractor.  Work should get underway this summer, with a lat 2022 finish planned.

$2.35 million dollar permit pulled to renovate the long vacant Victoria's Secret space at the Mall at Green Hills for Aritzia, a women's clothing store. It will fill a pretty prominent space that has been empty for quite a while. Canadian retailer with their first TN store.
