High fashion womenswear retailer Kirna Zabête is set to open a Nashville location next year, promising the city's first multi-brand boutique with a curated assortment from the biggest international design brands.

It is set for a March, 2023 debut at 2001 Warfield Drive (4,200 sq. ft.) in Green Hills – formerly home to party supply retailer Shindigs & Celebrations.

The 460 apt. and retail project being planned on 20.7 acres at Clarksville Hwy./Ashland City Hwy. split appears to be moving forward with the land purchase being completed for $8.05 million by Leftbank Holdings.  Smith Gee Studio will be the architect; Catalyst Design Group will oversee engineering/land planning.

The Eldorado will be a 3 building mixed-use development featuring three 4 and 3 story structures with about 150 residential units and ground level retail at 1833 Ed Temple Blvd. on the site of the Eldorado Motel, which was razed a decade ago (however, the iconic sign remains). Wedgewood Ave. Development, led by Beau Fowler, wants to keep the sign and pay homage to the former structure's materials/color palette in the design of the new buildings. Smith Gee Studio will be the architect.  No renderings yet. The property needs to be purchased by Wedgewood from Otey family, which developed the original hotel back in the the 1950s.

This is heart-warming ─ that a venture has been planned to preserved the name of that place, a well known landmark to locals within the community during the early and mid 1960s.  The original Eldorado Motel opened in 1957 partly in response to local demand for lodging provisions for the three then historically Black colleges and universities located a few miles away.  Lodging for minorities during that period were far and few, with several small hotels having been located within upper Jefferson St. (e.g. the Brown Hotel near 14th Ave and Jefferson).  Typical of the national proliferation of motor lodges along the federal highway system during early post-WWII years, the nearby Bordeaux Motel and Restaurant located on US-41A (Built 1950 at 3230 Clarksville Pk.) had been reserved for Whites only, at least until 1964.

When I moved from Urbana, IL to Nashville in the early '60s, my mom, along with a number few other parents of kids my age, used to rent a room at the Eldorado for us kids to use the swimming pool there in the summer.  Unlike when I could freely use the locally popular large oval pool at Crystal Lake City Park back in Urbana, Nashville was still segregated.  We either had to have family members as faculty at Tennessee "A&I" (Agricultural and Industrial State University) ─ renamed "TSU" in 1968 ─ to used the indoor and outdoor pools at that campus, or we had to use the Hadley Park pool which opened in the early 1950s.  Fortunately, I had both options available.

In recent years, I occasionally would drive by that weed-grown parcel with the rusty eyesore of a sign still remaining , and I always wondered why it never was simply torn down with the rest of the structure.  It officially used to be located at Buchannan St. and 28th Ave., since there WAS no Ed Temple Blvd back then.  Ed Temple Blvd is a late 20th century new alignment intended to remove some of the "snake" turns and the roller-coaster hill on Schrader Lane between 28th & Heiman St. and Buchannan.  Ed Temple Blvd bypasses most of 28th Ave, north of the railroad, for a more seamless connection to Clarksville Pk.  by eliminating the dog-leg intersection with Buchannan between the former misaligned paths of Schrader and 28th.

While this development is close to the tank farm (the Exxon river terminal) on the south side of the track, it won't have the vibrancy of 51st Ave in the Nations, which has a much larger tank-farm presence.  Hopefully and maybe after my time, it can spur additional mixed use development on the now-long depressed west end of Buchannan.

Excellent overview.  The Eldorado was still open when I attended TSU in the early 80's.  I used to drive by it all the time.  I knew someone who briefly lived there as it eventually became more of an apartment dwelling than a hotel.  Overtime as the motel was falling into despair it did develop a negative reputation.  Most of that reputation was over stated. 

You are 100% correct that the hotel was built to provide lodging for African Americans traveling to and through Nashville.   Including those with kids attending Tennessee State, Fisk and Meharry.  It gave them a place to stay outside of connecting with other families when they were dropping their kids off at the beginning of the semester or coming back for a graduation or even a football game.   Many African American celebrities also stayed there because it was one of the few motels they could stay in when performing in Nashville.  A member of the Otey family, and a TSU professor told me it was listed in the Green Book, which for those who may not know, was a travel guide for Negroes during segregation, especially the jim crow south.   

I too am very happy to hear that the developers of the property plan to keep and revitalize the sign.  It is iconic to that area and that will be a simple yet great way to retain a small yet visible portion of the areas history.

Sidewalks are finally being built along the northern end of 51st Ave N in the Nations. As has been pointed out before, this was somehow declared a "complete street" a few years ago despite not having any sidewalks from Kentucky to Centennial. Glad this is finally happening, but not sure why it is only on the eastern side of the street.

Yeah, that makes sense, but there's already a (probably slightly safer) crossing for Centennial on the western side, and there's existing sidewalk or sidewalk-like pavement on the western side of 51st except the half block occupied by GreenLeaf. They just finished installing the double-wide sidewalk in front of the bomb building (5101 Kentucky), but it just ends after that. Sidewalks should obviously be on both sides of the road, but this just seemed like the harder way out unless I guess GreenLeaf was absolutely refusing to allow a sidewalk.

The Hayden will be a 5 story, 74 unit apartment building with 7,000 sq. ft. of ground level retail and internal parking for 129 cars on 1.57 acres at 625 West Trinity Lane being developed by Trinity LLC.  The architect is Consortium; engineering to be handled by Catalyst Design Group.
