I don't report these often, because there are so many of them, but this is a huge real estate deal on an apartment complex in Hillsboro Village.  The 5 buildings which rise between 5 and 3 stories known as the Hayes House complex at 2004 21st Ave. with a cumulative 201 units, has sold for $51.3 million to a NYC LLC affiliated with Sentinel Real Estate.  The sale works out to about $255,200 per unit, which ranks among the highest in Nashville's history.

Just for perspective, the original two 1930s era 3 story apartment buildings were purchased for $6.34 million in 1996, along with the empty lot for $572,000 where the 3 newer 5 story structures  now sit.

Yes it is.      And I ran by the adjacent Tony Rose Park the other day and noticed the renovations to the park have been completed also.      It's an improvement to how the park looked before.       You'll recall that Metro allowed the builders to use the park as a staging area during construction and in exchange the developer would pay for upgrades to the park.

Thanks for the update! While there is no full rendering yet, the developer has submitted two drawings showing the elevations with a rough idea of what this will look like:

The state has approved for Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown to build a 98,000 sq. ft., $48 million freestanding rehab hospital at the midtown campus. The 40 bed facility will sit on top of a 2 level parking garage and will replace the current 24 bed facility at the east corner of 21st Ave. North and Patterson St.  Construction should begin in September, and be complete sometime in 2022.  No renderings yet.

Alex Palmer had major cash flow problems as a result of his West End Summit debacle and was forced to sell his namesake building about two years ago.  It is been updated a bit and is now known as 1801 West End Avenue.  Seeing the Tennessean name on that building (Ibelieve they occupy two floors) is a reminder of just how far the newspaper has fallen under Gannett ownership.

The Tennessean is a butt of jokes in my office. Our PR department always takes jabs at their shabby writing, preponderance of wire reports (combined with silly 'local' edits), and now that it's actually printed in Knoxville. But we have one of the best newspapers, especially for a city our size.

Gannett was sold to New Media Group (Gatehouse), but the merged company will still be known as Gannett.  Most print media (newspapers and magazines) continue in a steep decline.  There are very few local newsroom staff still at the Tennessean as the company has combined everything into a Tennessee News Network.  Hardly anything worth reading in today’s Tennessean as the reporting,  editorials and endorsements are a joke — only a shell of the influence the paper once had under John Seigenthaler’s leadership.

I grew up reading the Banner and Tennessean and it’s sad to watch as it proverbially drives itself into a ditch. With the new printing issues it doesn’t report (in print) on anything occurring after about 7pm which means it’s sports coverage is always 24-48 hours late and sports is one of the few areas it should be trying to keep its print readers. It’s ceded timely city news to the NBJ and Nashville Post. I don’t see why the online (print) edition of the paper can’t be updated until midnight if not being constantly updated through the day and night. That’s how many read it currently.  The online Tennessean website (non print) is pretty bad, IMO.

I know their readership is dying off. I’m nearly 60 and I know few people, under 70, still reading it, in print, on a daily basis. The ownership doesn’t seem interested in evolving the print edition into a more “living” format.
