Vanderbilt University has published a proposed masterplan image regarding the future phase two of its graduate and professional student "housing village.”

Released on Vanderbilt.edu, the image shows the phase two location and how its buildings could possibly be oriented in relation to each other and the Midtown streets that will create its border.

The image shows three existing buildings on the site —Barbizon Apartments and the Center Building (both located on Broadway) and a building housing the VU Counseling Center at 2015 Terrace Place — could be, at this early stage of the planning process, demolished. A historic former home at 2007 Terrace Place and that accommodates the VU Office of Community, Neighborhood and Gov't Relations is seen remaining in the phase two image.

Phase two would be bordered by Terrace Place on the north, 20th Avenue on the east, Broadway on the south and 21st Avenue on the west. Of note, the Cathedral of the Incarnation Catholic Church owns three surface lots at the northeast corner of the footprint. Vanderbilt owns the remainder of the site, which is fairly dominated by surface parking.

The image shows three buildings and a “transit hub,” with the latter located on the northeast corner of the intersection of 21st and Broadway and currently home to an electric car charging station. That node of the site also offers “Whisk,” a large public art piece shaped like the cooking utensil from which its name derives.

The former UA Tower at 50 Music Square West now has a permit issued at $700,000 for its demo by Tiny's Construction. As mentioned a few weeks ago, the plan is for an approximate 7 story hotel with 120 rooms and a 200 seat restaurant to be built on the site.  Jay Patel and Andy Bhakta will go before Metro Planning on April 9th with the specific plans for approval.

Saint Thomas Midtown/Kindred Healthcare's joint $48 million/40 bed rehab center  is getting ready to start.  It will take the place of the current 24 bed facility.  A permit for water and sewer availability has been applied for.

I hate that we've lost a lot of really cool old buildings in Nashville over the years...but if developers will keep building some of these nice Nashville brick structures, I think we'll have some really good "replacements" for the future.  At least not everything is a glass box.

Whoa, last time I was down there (Thanksgiving last year), there wasn't any sign of demolition or removal of the facade. 

Anyone have any idea what is being put in here? I like the attention Hillsboro Village is getting, but I miss Provence, Sam's, Bosco's, not to mention the bookshop. Even Jackson's patio was nice, though the quality went down a little bit in its later days.
