Yes, it is on the site of Jackson's. The right, 3 bay side, faces 21st. The left, 4 bay, side faces Belcourt Ave with Pancake Pantry across the street, to the left. The new Moxy Hotel is in the left background on 20th.

Rock Block Flats will be a 7 story, 30 unit  residential project by Tony Giarratana that will rise behind the 1920s-era strip of storefronts along the south side of the 2200 block of Elliston Place. It will stand about 80 feet tall. Southeast Venture will handle the architectural work.

The addresses of the property are 2201, 2205 and 2209 Elliston Place. Giarratana will need to acquire the property, which also offers surface parking. He will purchase both the building and the lot, with a July closing slated.  Various Metro approvals will be necessary, including a rezoning. No price tag has yet been disclosed.

This rendering reminds me of the Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis,  where there are a few such projects setback a block off the main the strips of storefronts remaining intact....

I honestly have no problem with new development here as long as it maintains the integrity of the actual Rock Block itself and keeps those store fronts in tact, which this development does beautifully.  It is masterful use of space... essentially preserving the neighborhood's history while simultaneously helping to advance the neighborhood into the future.  This is exactly the kind of thing that Elliston Place needs, and will help to shape the public's perception of the neighborhood as one that is dynamic and current and worthy of being preserved in the first place.  Not to mention, the way this project is situated on the block all but eliminates the possibility of those storefronts being torn down and replaced with something else.   Bravo Tony!!!

Yes.  If you look at the very top rendering you see how the Elliston Soda Shop will look in that building.

Ah, I see it now. I asked b/c that neon sign looked familiar but I couldn't make out the lettering. Now see it painted on the side. I hope he plans to give the inside a cool retro look that's not too slick. Part of that charm was its authenticity with original glass, bar and walls.

The 9,100 sq. ft. structure on .31 acre at 114-116 17th Ave. South that is currently home to Zac Brown's Southern  Ground Nashville studio is up for sale at $10 million.  The price includes all the recording equipment. Brown bought the site in 2012 for $600,000.  Originally built as a Presbyterian Church in 1903, it has been a recording studio since 1968. This area is feverishly percolating with development activity including Virgin Hotel, Sky House, Broadwest, and the Scenic Investments' proposed 27 story apartment tower all within 2 blocks.

This building at 2109 Ellison Place was once an office and supply depot for Southern Bell Telephone; in the 1960’s it was an office and warehouse for Wilson Quick Drug Stores, and later for another medical supply company.  It was attached to another structure that was demolished.

Yup it’s Division on the left, Broadway on the right looking toward downtown. He’s probably at Aertson

I think the new tower is being built to the right of the hotel from this angle. It’s going up at Broadway and 19th. 
 

I absolutely love the Kennect’s facade. The orange and dark windows really pop and look good.

A 3 story office building (no square footage supplied) will be built on the surface lot at 1912 Acklen Ave., across the street to the east from the Post Office in Hillsboro Village.  Stephen DiLeo is the developer. Anderson Architects is handling design, but no rendering is available yet.  Metro Planning Commission permission will be sought in June.

Why are there so many streets in that area that don't connect to Magnolia Blvd?  I didn't even realize it until seeing that satellite image.

Good question, and one I've wondered about. The answer I received was that Magnolia was built as a north-south bypass around Hboro Village and was designed to take much greater volume of east-west traffic that was destined to from the expansion of Wedgewood and connection to 31st Avenue. I think it was done in the early 1970s.
