A by-product of our rapid growth is that our utility providers are completely underwater. What I have been told from other contractors is the property has run into an issue with a utility pole and its proximity to the construction and it requires NES to move the pole. As a result, the contractor – WE O'Neil/Southland – has completely pulled off the site until the utility is relocated. The Skyliner (affordable apartments on Dickerson Pike just north of Hart Lane) ran into a similar issue and it took some time to get things rolling again. Not sure where the communication breakdown on coordinating with the pole occurred, but I'm sure the developer is losing their mind on the parcel.

As far as I know, M Cubed is fairly reputable in town, even if this is bigger than they normally do and the contractor, WE O'Neil/Southland, is a large contractor that has plenty of work in town. So for CM Sledge to say they have lost their shirts seems phishy at best to me and more like someone "not in the know".

I was copied on an email from Colby and several metro folks about the hole at 12th and Gilmore. Apparently there is a new contractor coming on board and will meet with metro, this week, concerning the project. Metro is pushing that no matter what happens, the alley adjacent to the site is to be reopened, with at least gravel (if not paved), as the project continues. There is also a push to get the sidewalk along 12th reopened. There is some discussion as to the site boundary (hole) in relation to the alley as well. (too close)

Apparently there have been a lot of folks complaining about this stalled project.

Vanderbilt University will build 3 new "residential colleges" (dorms) located in the Highland Quadrangle near Memorial Gym and 25th Ave. South that should start sometime next year and be completed by the fall of 2027. No renderings yet, but the designs should be similar to the recently completed Martha Rivers  Ingram Commons and the Vanderbilt Tower dorms along West End Ave.  That means that will be high-end brick and stone, with arched windows and probably in the 3 -5 story range. Foster + Partners will be the architect.

The new dorms will probably look something like these Ingram dorms recently opened on the north side of the campus:

These will take the place of the existing Morgan and Lewis residential towers and the Chaffin and Mayfield apartments.    The excellent development map says Martha Ingram Commons, but that's not what these will be called.   Highland Quadrangle is the working name for now.

These dorms have been needing to be demolished for about 20 years. They have long been the worst student housing on campus.

This screen shot from Smeagolsfree's excellent development map shows the site highlighted in teal at the center of the frame:

Does Foster and Partners have experience with traditional architecture?

Wow that's a big time firm. Nashville is moving up. I bet they will use a similar material pallet but the buildings will look more modern. Just my guess.

Hopefully they stay more traditional. You don’t want to end up with a building looking like the spam can on Tennessee’s campus, haha.

It will be interesting because that is a totally different contextual surrounding area on that side of campus - you have the VA Hospital,  several parking garages,  the tennis and rec centers and Blair Music School.  So whereas the new buildings along West End have all moved to bring  cohesion of style with the existing gothic/classical academic and administration buildings,  there really isn't anything to take cues from over there.

Vanderbilt Owen School of Management addition (5 stories,  48,000 sq. ft., internal garage) update: more glass and stonework installed.

Personally, I'm not sure why they went for that stone style facade. I think bricks in the usual Vanderbilt style would have been more fitting.

What is the project happening on Wedgewood Ave near 12th?

Could be a number of things. Could be intersection improvements due to the bike lane/road diet. Could be infrastructure improvements due to the medical school. Which side of 12th did you see something?
