That building at 2416 West End Avenue (Rite Aid/Smoothie King) won a preservation award from Metro’s Historical Commission in 1986. I do not know if there is any sort of restriction on its renovation or demolition.

Maybe someone could incorporate the old with the new here.  They could re-use the old structure to fit the new function and build on top of it in a style that matches.

Vanderbilt University has landed a $35,000 permit for the razing of the structure at 1912 Broadway that was once home to J&J's Market. A crew is on site today getting the demo underway.

The school is still trying to find anyone who would like to move the historically significant 3 story brick structure at 1922 Broadway that 0once housed Manuel clothing designers.  There have been no takes in the past 2 years, so it will most likely be demolished as well.

That entire block will be part of the massive new graduate and professional student housing project that is supposed to break ground in early 2020 and open about 2 years later. Still no designs or renderings made available to the public yet.

I have seen some of the projects done by Brailsford & Dunlavey and must say they are very underwhelming. I'm afraid the Vandy G&PS 'village' is going to be a big disappointment. Just hope years from now, we're all not saying, what a missed opportunity.

I've always kinda lamented the fact that Vandy keeps creeping eastward...but if they'll keep constructing buildings similar to what they've done the past few years...I say 'bring it on'!

Vanderbilt Children's Hospital (4 stories on top of existing 8, $100 million) update. Exterior nearly complete.

I still think this is the ugliest building that is even worse with the sun on it.  They have done such a great job with the new dorms, but failed miserably with this.

^^It really looks like they took a weird structure from somewhere else...plucked it up with a huge crane...and then set it on top of the current hospital.  Just strange looking.

I agree. This is awful. What a shame.

Yep... looks like someone ripped the bricks off this thing. Certainly a failed attempt at creating a 'fun & quirky' facade.

^ ^ ^ For those who can't get behind the Nashville Post paywall, here's a bit more info:

- The two structures will be 4 and 5 stories, with a total of 124 residential units on the .75 acre lot at 106 Acklen Park Dr., immediately behind (north) the mixed-use building that once housed Outback Steakhouse.

- There is no name listed on Metro documents yet.

- SR Residential Partners is the developer.  JHP is the architect.

- They will go before Metro Planning Commission on June 13 to seek a zoning change.

I have to ask, isn't that area historically been known as Acklen Park? I seem to remember stone gateways on Acklen Park actually saying that.
