Hutton Hotel officials have landed a Metro Codes Department permit to create what the document notes will be a “music venue” within the Midtown-based hospitality building.

The permit comes about six weeks after the officials announced the hotel would undergo a major renovation, including upgrades to restaurant 1808 Grill, guest rooms, suites and lobby.

Hutton officials did not disclose at the time a price for the upgrades to the hotel, which is located at 1808 West End Ave. However, the recently issued Metro permit, which will also allow for the creation of an additional penthouse unit, is valued at $5.7 million.

Chicago-based Norcon Inc. will serve as construction manager, according to the document.

Nashville-based Tuck Hinton Architects is handling design elements of the project, with assistance from Dallas-based Studio 11 Design (which offers both design and build-out services). Sandy Springs, Georgia-based The John Hardy Group, a development services firm for investors and brands in hospitality real estate, will also participate in the job.

The previously issued released referenced “the creation of an organically curated experience venue” but did not provide specifics.

The permit notes the project will involve “renovating existing unused parking levels of Hutton Hotel to create a small music venue and an additional penthouse unit.”

Hutton officials could not be reached for comment to provide details of the venue.

It is now Country Delight.  We discussed this about a month ago and I think if they would just paint a mural on them or come up with some other paint scheme they'd fit just fine.  They could be iconic to the area as a piece of art.  But I'm not counting on Country Delight commission the work.  I do wonder if they the art commission could initiate something artistic for them.  The downside of course is if Country Dairy every sells the property the silos will probably come down as well.  Unless like some water towers they are incorporated into a new development for the property.

Boutique Graduate Hotel planned for NW corner of West End Ave. and 20th Ave. North (former location of Checkers Drive-In). The co-developer of Thompson Hotel in the Gulch paid $12.75 million for the 1 acre lot ($289 per square foot).  No word yet on how many rooms, floors, etc.

There are some interesting possibilities for this development per the Graduate Hotels website... the video is enlightening. With the Thompson Hotel group behind it, it should be something special. And we get rid of the fast food drive-through.

Looks like they're into adaptive reuse and renovation of older properties. Maybe they'll find a way to incorporate the Checkers and Taco Bell buildings. 

I don't know... someone's putting a Greyhound bus atop a hotel.

Taco Bell is looking to rapidly grow their "Taco Bell Cantina" brand (open late, serves alcohol, no drive-thru); seems to me that one of those would be a good fit for the Midtown/Vandy area.

I might be in the minority on this one, but I like the Cantina concept -- at least compared to a typical fast-food joint. The photos from the Vegas location look like something they would put in the downtown area or the Gulch and market to tourists. I'll be surprised if Nashville doesn't have one or two of these in the next couple of years.

A view of the Edge Midtown opened a couple of years ago. It has small studio apartments and caters to Vandy students.

Where did that building come from? I don't think I've ever read or seen a single thing about it. I made lots of trips to the medical office across the road and to the Suntrust adjacent to it up until 2014 and don't remember it being under construction at that point. This is like a whole new development for me!

The 5 story Panattoni development going in at 1 Music Circle South (where former CMA HQ building is being readied for demo), will now be called the BMG Building, and will house much of the operations for that music label. In this article, it says the square footage is being upped to 120,000 from the original 96,000 that was announced last year.  But instead of going taller, it appears the building is deeper off the street in this rendering for the 1 acre lot.
