Forgot to mention this at the meetup, but we had a rep in the office on Thursday that said they recently had a meeting with the group responsible for redeveloping the octagon building into a hotel and they are dealing with budgetary issues, which may be why any progress is slow. This rep was lighting and he mentioned that the lighting budget was set by the contractor and is astronomically low for this type of project

There are some other issues involved here with the fire codes that may be addressed today.

Too bad they didn’t stick with the more traditional architecture...similar to what they’re doing on West End.  I realize this is kinda “off campus”...but this design just feels very 80-ish to me.

They are spending a ton of money on those buildings. This is being built by a private developer with a land lease from Vandy - there is just no way the numbers would make sense.

They're ok, but are very reminiscent of Sarratt, which is cool on the inside, but blah on the outside. It will made decent, if not eye-catching infill along Broadway.  So what is Vandy planning for phase 2 and where will it be, between 20th and 21st Avenues?

The 3 homes that have housed music businesses for the past 50 years at 1010, 1012, and 1014 16th Ave. South have sold for a cumulative $3.98 million to Harold & Owen LLC, which plans to build a 4 story mixed-use structure on the .51 acre site that will feature first floor office space, 2nd floor shared office space, and STR residential on 3rd and 4th floors.  There will also be one level of underground parking.  Further details and a rendering will be released soon.

This is just a few lots to the north of where the Panattoni plans their 6 story office building,  and immediately to the south of the 5 story condo structure that was completed in 2008. All of the previous owners basically doubled their investments on the structures they had each bought within the last decade our so.

Yeah - agreed. Makes functional sense and isn't terrible on the outside. This design isn't completely finalized, but I can't imagine there will be major changes at this point. My understanding is that if and when the demand is demonstrated for additional housing, it would be between 20th and 21st. Everything is still in flux - likely, there will be some sort of academic and/or administrative building over there, some green space, potentially a transit hub, and changes along 21st to make the "village" feel more connected to campus.

I think this is a new rendering of phase 1 of Vanderbilt's grad/prof. housing. Of note from the article, "The university is in the process of finalizing its operating agreement with Lendlease, determining a housing eligibility and priority structure, and finalizing the design of phase 1, which has a target open date of July 2022."  Lots more on other capital projects here, too. https://news.vanderbilt.edu/2019/12/11/wente-kopstain-provide-capital-projects-update-at-campus-meeting/?utm_source=myvupreview&utm_medium=myvu_email&utm_campaign=myvupreview-2019-12-11

Isn't this part of where they're envisioning a "walk and roll loop"? Is that just a wide sidewalk?

The 10 Story former United Artists Tower at 50 Music Square West may finally see some forward movement in conversion to a 185 room Tapestry Collection boutique hotel by Hilton. Metro Fire and Code Appeals.

The future design will see the octagon form altered to a more conventional shape. The building offers 56,700 square feet. Sai Ram 009 LLC owns the nine-story structure.

“This is just for our own internal planning purposes to determine what we can and cannot do. We are looking for a fire rating that isn’t permitted by right in the building code. We are still months away until we have our design finalized,” says Jay Patel, one of the lead investors.

Their plan also includes a 360 degree rooftop bar.

Any of you guys ever been in the parking garage of this structure?  If you have claustrophobia, don't do it.

For me, while I hate to potentially see the buildings go, it was/are the stores/restaurants vs. the buildings that are memorable.

Exactly... I realize nothing lasts forever, and neighborhoods evolve and change over time, but regardless of whether the buildings remain or not, the Elliston Place we know and love will effectively be gone once Smack is replaced with a Soul Cycle, and Exit/In is replaced with a Jamba Juice.

Jane Chera has bought another old home at 706 18th Ave. South, which now gives her 5 properties in a row taking up .8 acre from Division Street down the east side of 18th Ave. She paid $2.15 million for this new purchase.  The  3 story home has been sitting empty for a while. It would seem she is getting ready to do a large, mixed-use project of some sort.

Really sad about the stabbing deaths of two young men outside the Dogwood Bar this morning.  One of those murdered was Clay Beathard...son of one of my songwriting partners Casey Beathard...and brother of 49ers QB CJ Beathard and grandson of NFL Hall of Famer Bobby Beathard.  Trapeni's father is an optometrist in Smyrna.  Both graduated from BGA.

Still looking for the suspect(s).

https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/local/2019/12/21/nashville-police-searching-suspects-midtown-stabbing/2720260001/

Metro Nashville police officers have identified Clayton Beathard, 22, and Paul Trapeni III, 21, both of Williamson County, as the two men who were fatally stabbed outside of a Midtown bar Saturday morning.

Beathard, who played football at Long Island University and Battle Ground Academy, was the brother of NFL quarterback C.J. Beathard of the San Francisco 49ers, brother of musician Tucker Beathard, son of country music songwriter Casey Beathard and grandson of NFL Hall of Famer Bobby Beathard, who won four Super Bowls as a general manager.

"The fatal stabbings appear to have resulted from an argument over a woman that began inside Dogwood Bar and then turned physical when the parties went outside," MNPD confirmed in a press release. "Multiple persons were involved in the outdoor fight during which the two men were both fatally stabbed in their sides.  A third stabbing victim, a 21-year-old man, was treated and released."
