Yes, I work on Melrose Ave and there is quite a bit of construction activity taking place between Melrose and I-440.  This particular building site does have some pretty stunning city views.

Twelfth & Wedgewood (4 stories, 175 units) update. Starting 4th floor on northern segment.

Looking SE from near intersection of 12th Ave. South and Argyle Ave:

I thought this building was going all the way up to the corner at Wedgewood. Isn't that right?  Fencing goes that far, but looks like the building stops well short of that. How far up has excavation/foundation work gone?

Yes...it will go all the way down to Wedgewood. It will stair-step up slightly as it goes up the hill.   This is the perspective from 12th & Wedgewood looking northward.  Note the stair-step downward to the left:

Local specialty coffee brand White Bison Coffee and retailer Twice Daily just had their grand opening at 12th AVe. South and Montrose Ave; The store is the first two-story location for White Bison and Twice Daily that exclusively sells handcrafted coffee and food offerings but doesn’t have a fuel station.

I went to the neighbors open house they had on Saturday morning and again yesterday. It is very nice. They say they will soon offer some limited dinner items, single serve beers and wines and possibly occasional music.  The store offerings are close to what you'd see in regular Twice Daily's. It should do well with everyone but the crowd that sneers at anything new in the neighborhood.

Olympic 1 will be the name of a 5 story, 51 unit condo development with a nearly $20 million price tag for 806 Olympic St., just west of 8th Ave. South in the Edgehill area.  Currently there is a one story, non-historic building on the site.  Metro Planning Commission will hear a request for the height and purpose requested by developers Meg Epstein, Steve Armistead, and Jared Bradley.  No renderings yet.

The site is shown as Polygon 232 (teal square in center) on this screen snot from Smeagolsfree's excellent Development Map:

Glad they labeled the floors. It is hard to keep count with so many.

Also, it is crazy seeing a place like this costing 350K and then you still see Mercedes and BMWs in the parking lot. (And then an unmarked police vehicle) Do people just have zero savings or is there really this much money in the city?

If you have no debt (or even a moderate amount) and a 100k plus a year job, you would be surprised how much money banks will give you.

$100,000 in income can get you ~$550,000 in mortgage debt assuming you can put 10% down.  That would yield a home price of around $610,000.  I think that's how all of this continues to get built and purchased.
