Davidson Southeast: Antioch, Century Farms, East of Brentwood

TJ Maxx, or similar, is going to Murfreesboro Rd (not official)

There was an effort put forth to keep the Target open. When the discussion was ongoing (period of about a year) that store had been in the negative for about 2-3 years. Although all the numbers, demographics, etc were favorable, the negative perception of Antioch (at that point) was the reason it was closed. Most everyone involved - including Target officials - could see the future was coming, but how much money would they lose while waiting for the future?10 years? Too much to lose. Even though a shiny new Super Target opened in Smyrna, the numbers were still there to support the Antioch store. But people would not shop there. The end.

The .42 acre triangular lot at 87 Lafayette St. (at intersection with Wharf Ave. about 3 blocks SE of I-40 inner belt)  is for sale at $2 million.  It currently has a 1 story auto care business located there. It backs up to Cameron College Prep School and is jest a few blocks east of all the activity happening in Chestnut Hill/WeHo.

"after officials decided the city's forthcoming Major League Soccer stadium would not leave "adequate space" for hosting the fair."

What an overwhelming crock of meh. Before all of this even started, the head guy was on the record saying they needed 300+ acres to put on a decent fair. The Fairgrounds is only 110, so regardless of what was ever going to happen to the Fairgrounds they weren't going to stay there unless they wanted to continue to put on a, in their own words, sub par State Fair.

Yeah...the State Fair Board is being a bit disingenuous to blame this on MLS.  First of all...Tennessee's State Fair is beyond lame compared to "real" state fairs elsewhere, no matter the size.  But...if this helps them turn it into a better fair at another site in the state...good.

Here are some attendance figures for the biggest state fairs.  Btw...Tennessee usually sees somewhere between 100k-200k a year.

https://www.readers.com/blog/biggest-state-fairs/

1. State Fair of Texas (2.25 million visitors)

2. Minnesota State Fair (2 million visitors)

3. The Big E (1.5 million visitors)

4. The Great New York State Fair (1.2 million visitors)

5. Tulsa State Fair (1.15 million visitors)

6. Arizona State Fair (1.14 million visitors)

7. Iowa State Fair (1.13 million visitors)

8. Wisconsin State Fair (1.03 million visitors)

9. North Carolina State Fair (1.01 million visitors)

10. Washington State Fair (1 million visitors)

I still think the Superspeedway is a perfect spot for the state fair.  I'm not sure who owns it now...or what their plans are...but you could actually get the people who run the Wilson County Fair to help get it off the ground (since they seem to do a better job than the state fair folks).  Or...how about have the Wilson County Fair...then right after that, transition into the state fair on the same plot of land?

Thanks @PaulChinetti

Do you know if existing parking will remain at Greer? The MLS team will need as much parking as possible, and this area could be a shuttle location.

Fantastic news RE the Envision Napier-Sudekum!

plans for approximately 1,900 – 2,100 housing units with housing choices ranging from one-bedroom to fivebedroom units and including a 1:1 replacement of the 821 existing affordable apartments. The remaining units are workforce housing for households earning moderate incomes and market-rate apartments for households that can afford market rate. The overall target is 40% affordable, 20% workforce and 40% market-rate housing

I haven't read/heard anything. I know the money set aside was to demolish the stadium. Not sure if it will involve that big back parking lot or the one in the front though.

More info on Pollack Shores project first reported above by the Post.

242 units with a completion in Spring 2021. Cost of the project is around 50 million.

From the Chestnut Hill neighborhood meeting recap.

  • Site work to disassemble Greer Stadium are set to begin this week and will likely take 4-6 months.

Looks like Greer is not long for the world, I hope they figure out how to save the guitar scoreboard, I just think it's cool.

  • Envision Napier-Sudekum Process: Colby expects re-zoning of this neighborhood to happen next month. While this is in District 19, it neighbors Chestnut Hill and will involve public meetings. Colby will share more information as it is available and there is an expected announcement from the Mayor’s office near the end of the month on affordable housing.

This would be a gargantuan upgrade to this area.

When could we realistically see construction/dirt moving on Envision Napier? 1 yr, 5 yrs?
