I think Lafayette still has a pretty bad stigma. It's gonna need that first bar/restaurant/something to make the leap then places will start getting snapped up with a quickness.

A 24 unit townhome project is being planned for the vacant 1.3 acre lot at 2176 Carson  St, east of the fairgrounds, by Red Seal Homes. They paid $2.5 million for the site.  Zoning for residential is already set, and they hope to break ground this summer.  No renderings yet.

I can't wait to see what this looks like after it's all shined up.  It just might be my favorite building in the city.  It adds a very unique sort of 'gritty Art Deco' aesthetic to the neighborhood.

Century Farms' Vintage 1857  Apartments (4 stories, 217 units), which were announced a year ago, have broken ground. The $44 million project is being developed by Oldacre McDonald and TDK Cos.  It should be open by 2022.

Hamilton + Martin (3 stories, 29 units) had construction shut down several months ago due to code violations, but apparently got restarted and is now open  with tenants.

The material is most likely a "weathered steel" similar to Corten where once they have reached a certain level of rust it stops degrading. The rust on the outside actual creates a protective layer for the material.
