The neighborhood would help dictate what kind of business would develop in that area. With the high buyout rates those residents would probably be asking, they would not be replaced with cheap tenants (businesses). Like I said before, I see another Sherwood type of boulevard developing if they get the right zoning.

Why would the people who live in south Baton Rouge want a "Sherwood blvd" type area on their side of town?

Green Light Plan work on Old Hammond gets $17.1M in extra federal funds

Two segments of work to expand and improve Old Hammond Highway as part of the city-parish's Green Light Plan are set to receive $17.1 million in additional funding. Mayor Kip Holden's office this morning announced the funding award, which comes through a competitive application process by the Surface Transportation Program, a federally funded program administered regionally by the Capital Region Planning Commission, which serves as Baton Rouge’s Metropolitan Planning Organization, or MPO. The award means a total of $23.4 million will now be added to the budget for work on Old Hammond, Holden's office says, as the city-parish will provide $6.3 million in local match dollars to leverage the additional federal funds. One segment of work on Old Hammond will include the widening of the roadway from two to four lanes in two areas: from Boulevard De Province to Millerville Road, and from Millerville Road to O'Neal Lane. Another segment includes work to improve intersections, medians and curbing along Old Hammond. The federal funds were approved to be used during fiscal years 2018 and 2019 on the work, and the mayor's office says city-parish officials will immediately begin working with the staff of the CRPC to develop a timeline for moving both projects into construction. —Steve Sanoski

Ask The Advocate: Whatever happened to the Stumberg Lane project?

Q. The Stumberg Lane extension project, which runs along/behind Woman’s Hospital, appears to have come to a complete stop near the intersection at Tiger Bend Road. What is the status of the project and the expected completion date?

A. Bryan Harmon, interim director of the city-parish Department of Public Works, tells us this project was broken into multiple phases. “The first phase included the relocation of Pecue, the signal and turn lanes on Airline Highway, and the new roadway and roundabout at Woman’s Hospital,” Harmon said.

“The next phase extended the road from the roundabout to a few hundred feet short of Jefferson Highway and included the bridge across Claycut Bayou. This phase of work was recently completed and was done to allow the construction of the bridge to proceed while we were still acquiring right of way along the northern limits of the projects and allowing time for those utilities to relocate.

“The last phase will make the connection to Jefferson Highway, including some turn lane improvements on Jefferson at this intersection and at the Tiger Bend-Jefferson split. This last phase of work has been bid and awarded (Byron Talbot Construction was the low bidder with a low bid of just under $4 million). The utility companies are finalizing their relocations and the notice to proceed with construction has been issued for Jan. 12, 2015.

“The initial work will be a little slow getting started since the contractor must mobilize to the site, get his materials approved and ordered,” Harmon said. “The contract time is just under one year.”

No outlet onto Jefferson Hwy?

Yes...it intersects Jefferson Hwy on the top of the aerial pic

Hopefully they add sidewalks, I see they are trying connect the roads more like the roads are in the North part of the parish. Once they finish widen Essen and expand Staring Lane to Burbank and Highland traffic in that area should move a lot better.

There are sidewalks on both sides from Airline Hwy to Jefferson Hwy

Gotta relieve some of the traffic on Bluebonnet Blvd

Metro Council takes step toward making Picardy-Perkins Connector a reality; would connect Perkins to I-10

http://theadvocate.com/news/16055622-171/metro-council-takes-step-toward-making-picardy-perkins-connector-a-reality-would-connect-perkins-to-

Construction on the first phase of the new connector is scheduled to start late this year or early next year. It will run from Perkins to Park Rowe Avenue, a road within Perkins Rowe complex, giving Perkins Rowe shoppers another entrance.

However, the second and larger stretch of the project extending the line to Mall of Louisiana Boulevard won’t be completed until late 2018 or 2019, Charbonnet said. The project is “pretty complicated,” more complicated than it looks, he continued. The new road will need a bridge over Dawson Creek and an underpass beneath the Kansas City Southern Railroad line.

The connector is part of a larger effort to ameliorate traffic in the area. In addition to rerouting Picardy, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation is also calling for an extension of Dijon Drive which wraps around Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. Its plans for a medical district include turning Dijon into a service road along Interstate 10, connecting Bluebonnet with Essen Lane and easing travel between the various health campuses in the area.

The Picardy-Perkins connector is part of the city-parish’s Green Light Plan, which is funded through a 30-year half-cent sales tax approved in 2005. About 75 percent of its projects have been completed, but now work is going to slow down
