Publix decides against new store at Encore site near downtown Tampa

Recommended Posts

It seems that even if downtown Orlando continues to be a retail desert, we're still ahead of Tampa. The Times quotes Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, "We all want a grocery store for downtown..."

Meanwhile, hope springs eternal in The City Beautiful as yet another group desperate for downtown retail, Orlando 2.0, seems to be making the same mistakes City Hall has been making ever since our Eola Publix opened in 2008.

While not technically in the core, isn't there a Publix just across the river from the Tampa Convention Center?  I suppose it's analogous to our Publix on Shine, vs. the Lake Eola location.

What mistakes is Orlando 2.0 making?
