Montford Drive

Miesian Corners

Recommended Posts

With the intense restaurant/drinking spot activity on Montford Drive, it seems like the time is right for a streetscape improvement project for the area.  There are currently tons of pedestrians, but no sidewalks.  Parking is challenging most every night.  Does anyone know of a plan?  Do the merchants on the street have an association?

Some good info in the draft Park/Woodlawn area plan just published on Jan 15.  Specifically mentions Montford as a "Main St" for the area...wider sidewalks, planting strips, better defined on-street parking, and additional connectivity to Abbey Pl and Park Towne VIllage among the proposals.

Thanks, Mad Park (love your hood, btw).  Let's hope this happens sooner than later.  Charlotte has a tendency to study things to death.  Sidewalks are needed now--we shouldn't have to wait until 2020

Bumping this thread back up - Hopefully some of the streetscape improvements can be incorporated into the plans for the new apartment complexes proposed in this area. There should be even more pedestrian traffic once all of the apartments are built and filled. Tenants will be walking to the new restaurants coming to Park Rd Shopping Ctr, Montford Dr, and the tasting room at Brawley's. The city really needs to add safe ways to cross over Park Rd at Montford. The city plan linked above also mentioned removing some of the PRSC curb cuts on Woodlawn and possibly a pedestrian bridge from Park Towne Village to Park Rd Shopping Ctr.

New apartments next to Mann Travel at Park/Woodlawn (same builder as the recently completed building on the other side of the intersection http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/real_estate/2014/04/selwyn-property-group-planning-second-apartment.html

Also, there are some proposed new town homes a little further down Woodlawn. http://ww.charmeck.org/Planning/Rezoning/2014/028-032/2014-029%20site%20plan.pdf

Does anyone know if the proposed project at Hedgemore & Abbey Place is allowing for the extension of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway?

The proposed alignment for LSCG is actually along Montford, Hedgemore and Abbey Pl through this section, so if you look at the site plan for that project you'll notice the sidewalk is extra wide to accommodate it.

Could I impose on kermit's time and propose that this flurry of projects get added to the development map? :)

Yea...

Good idea. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be added allover the place.

Construction fence is up today for the apartment project on Park across from the Harris Teeter near Selwyn. I think this will do a lot to make that little stretch of Park look much nicer. The old apartments that are there now are pretty awful. I just hope this one interacts with its surroundings a little better than Cielo does.

Its very interesting the continued densification of Madison Park. Who would have thought that Park Slope would be getting a half dozen Mid rise apartment buildings, that are more interesting than SouthEnd's mid rise apartment buildings. Introducing "the Walden"

I live in Montclaire (neighborhood adjacent and south to Madison Park) and the neighborhoods are definitely "turning over".  Even in the 18 months we have been in our home, I've see piles of elderly couples moving out of their homes and them being purchased by DINK's (like my wife and I) or young families.  It's a very exciting time to be in this area and I'm happy to see this development occurring!

Pasta & Provisions eyeing the Mike's Discount beverage building on Park Rd. A great addition to the area IMO.

I have been to Brawleys a hundred times and I don't think I have EVER seen a car (other than the minivan of the owner) in the parking lot for Mike's Discount.  No idea how it stayed open for a decade plus.

When I first moved here and there were few other bottle shops (if any), I didn't know there was a difference and basically flipped a coin and went in Mike's. It had a poorer selection than most gas stations do today.

Rezoning Petition for the southwest corner of Montford and Park - currently a hair salon in an old house - converting over to retail. http://www.charmeck.org/city/charlotte/planning/Rezoning/RezoningPetitions/2015Petitions/Pages/2015-053.aspx

As a resident in this neighborhood, I'd like to see retail come to this side of Park Rd. Have a feeling the immediate neighbors will fight this though due to the driveway on Montford.

If it actually comes out with those orange and jade-shaded accents you can just imagine me as that eager kid in the foreground. I wanna hug the colours.

Maybe that kid shouldn't run into traffic... what a weird thing to put in the bottom left.
