The Church St deck across the street is in permitting now. 12 levels (quite a few underground) with support for 2 additional levels. 2,700 spaces and 1,000,000 total square feet of space. That is a big parking deck! Must be some crazy plans for additional uses and density because that parking can't just be for football games.

Edit: There's also talk of a ped bridge over Church Street

for reference. Duke Energy Center, a 1.5M sq foot tower complete with 2 art museums, retail, an apartment tower, and a performing art center has only 2100 spaces.

We don't need a pedestrian bridge....those people can cross the street

hopefully its for an Urban mall type concept.

Before anyone tells me Brick/mortar retail is dying, I think urban malls could be places for retailers to shift their business models for slimmer stores with new technologies and urban malls fits the eat/play/stay destination that malls are turning too to keep shoppers.

A pedestrian bridge is interesting because in my mind, a retail center would make sense to connect then with a bridge.

Just out of curiosity, who is "we"?  If the developer pays for it and it increases connectivity, seems like a win for the overall development plan.

A lot of us on this forum do not like the pedestrian bridges in uptown due to the Overstreet Mall pulling activity off of the street. If the new mall on the Observer site is done incorrectly and does not interact with the street, the pedestrian bridge will just be another gerbil tunnel in uptown funneling people away from the street.

So I am currently in Frankfurt (interesting city, don't know what to make of it), staying in Messe on Europaallee- which is really cool, urban regeneration on an old rail yard! Anyway, my hotel has a good view of the MesseTurm: which is a little bit shorter than BAC Center, and IMO like the CO building. Now if the prefab concrete of COT could be replaced with granite we'd have our own mini MesseTurm! (Apologies for lowish quality).

Hello Johnny and Johno   Please have your formal announcement about your 30 story 588 feet or so tall high rise and give us the new name of the this wonderful new mixed use complex. The cloud over the state has lifted and your bank tenant should be able to say they are leasing more space. No big deal. Please. Signed, Charlotte UP

The crane on the tower today.
