Quick update from my perch. I guess this is the second floor they’re getting prepped to pour?  Watching all the workers mill around makes me think of bees building a hive. 
 

The other picture shows progress in the front of the new Duke building. Looks like it will be a decent sized outdoor space for pedestrians and retail shoppers to use.

The sheer verticality of the buildings in some of these shots is just insane. You could tell a random person these were taken in a newer neighborhood of like Chicago and they'd probably believe you. Charlotte's skyline is something to be very proud of.

Nice array of angles, it gives good perspective on the progress. I took a couple this morning while in traffic. Even snagged one from that mirrors your first pic although mines included an BMW X3 lol. Nothing of this quality though hence why I didn't post'em. Let's just say its time for a phone upgrade.

Spoke to an employee at Honeywell and am now a little skeptical about any LU5 or LU6 being a Honeywell 2 Tower.  Current work from home trends and how empty the current building is during the workweek may cause there to be different uses for the last two building pads at Legacy Union in the future.

What a travesty!  Whatever will we do?  Instead of achieving growth by just negotiating and heaping grants and incentives on big companies through their executive committees to force their current and future employees to Charlotte, we’ll have to invest in being a really desirable and first-rate place to live where people and their families can thrive and flourish and find community connection outside of work hours.  I hope economic development officials are adjusting their playbooks.

I'd honestly prefer the remaining parcel remains empty longer with the hopes it ends up being mixed use, retail, hospitality, residential, et.... versus just another office skyscraper that is 60% full on "peak days" with people anxious to run home at 5PM and emerge for a 1 hour period midday to get a grab and go lunch before returning to their cube.

Austin (and maybe Nashville but for sure Austin) has sooo many mixed use towers and a bunch on the way. Charlotte needs more of that. Seems like CLT’s developers aren’t into that (maybe because historically the banks were giant tenants that needed a lot of space anyway so the market didn’t need that) Not sure if the ship has sailed on that as Austin was going that even pre-pandemic. 

Only FNB tower in Charlotte strikes me as one of the larger mixed use towers? I think they did Rhys for some “prestige” of having a taller tower with their name on of. Hopefully Charlotte can have a few more office conversions. Because as you point out, along with the other poster, these office towers post pandemic are going to become anemic areas if they’re not going to be fully utilized.

I would also like to see the rest of Legacy Union be residential and hotel.  I also want to see some future signature office towers go up along trade on what ever few capable lots are left.

I’d rather see hotel or residential anyway. That area has a lot of office. Cities are better with a nice blend. Mix it up. I’m not a big fan of mixuse buildings tbh I’d rather just an array of different buildings side by side. Like I don’t want to live in the Bank of America building…or have a condo above the Holiday Inn

Mixed use developments are the way to go as the Charlotte Center City progresses post-lockdown phase of this ongoing pandemic.  People who live and visit the Center City will want to be entertained, have places to able to eat and/or drink, gather, top-notch lodging, and places to see. It's why there needs to be more non-office/work-related tourist attractions in the area.  FNB Tower is the template developer for the future of Charlotte Center City.  Now is time for others to put their spin on that template while providing multiple uses within a high-rise or mid-rise tower developments.

What’s interesting is Lincoln Harris has not done a Hospitality/Residential Project, or at least hasn’t highlighted any in its portfolio. Doesn’t even have a section for them. If they were to do something like that they would need to bring another developer in, otherwise it would be a first time as far as I can tell.
