anywhere else in the country this 2 block project would have a grand sounding name like Charlotte City Centre (notice the spelling) or One Charlotte Center or something. This is a huge project more than $1 billion with reportedly 4-5 high rise towers. Or how about Charlotte Central Plaza CCP come on Lincoln Harris you are spending the big bucks name it! PS Please put up the webcam too.

Johnny Harris lives in 1987. No such thing as a webcam.

I know that the data center is getting demoed in 2019.  The city I believe actually owns the land, and was leasing the land to Duke.  Now that the data center is relocated to Univ City, the building is coming down.  I suspect since it is on the same parcel as the convention center and already controlled by the city, this is where we will see our new "mega hotel", but I honestly hope it is less than 1,000 room.....600-800 is more than appropriate.  I think JW is a likely candidate, but I doubt any of that is officially in the works yet.

atlrvr is correct.  That building is going to get demoed (eventually).  I work in that building and I'm slated to be relocated to Univ City or somewhere Uptown late this year or early next year, wherever they can find me a cubicle.  Preferably, I'd rather work remotely or Uptown since the drive from South End to Univ City is not a lot of fun.

But you'll  have a new light rail by then. No drive necessary.

True, but too bad it's almost a 3-mile walk from the nearest station:

Or the bridge they are about to build across I-85 to connect into Univ Research Park..  will be less than a mile walk once complete.

Serious engineering for this project. Everything has to be considered, such as location and amount of soil moved for replacement, timing of parking excavation, access and storage, size of building piers and so very much more. Plus site logistics. I am astounded at what happens to make this occur.

I think this building could be far more interesting, from a skyline perspective, if it has some creative lighting. I'd love to see each diamond in the pyramid light up a different color. Could have a pretty dramatic effect and could provide for some more depth to our touchdown light show during home games.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but the entire project will be 5,000,000 square feet and the city approved air rights for a pedestrian bridge across Church.

Just read that in Nashville they are getting a new 27.000 sq ft H&M store downtown which made me think what happened to the retail promised for this project? Is it  contingent on more towers or will it be on both sides of the entrance way of the 33 story office tower from Tryon? Downtown Nashville may have more hotels and tourists but Uptown Charlotte clearly has more office workers and residents.  Anybody know some updates?

Tryon, church mint and stonewall at the least should be more or less lined with retail. Last numbers I heard were in the 250k area. But who knows could have changed

I'd expect a floor per week after they get through the first 4 floors.....I'm going to guess sometime in April for occupiable floor + a few more weeks to do the crown (which may be on a delay if it is screening mechanical)....so with that said, I'm not sure this will be more than 15 stories by the end of football season.

Interesting note referring to this last image. While walking to work down Tryon today, I noticed they were removing most of the Red "A Joint Venture" signage and replacing them with standard green screening. Speculate away.

Someone has too much time on their hands?
