Greensboro is preparing for the opening of its downtown full service grocery store next Wednesday. Deep Roots Market will include a cafe with outdoor seating. The store is located near the new luxury downtown Greenway at Fisher Park Apartments and ballpark.

"Wednesday will mark a historic day in Greensboro, as the first modern-era grocery store opens downtown"

"In the new store, Deep Roots will also sell beer and wine for the first time and will have fresh meats and seafood."

Greensboro's first modern era downtown full service grocery store officially opens! It's a big deal considering that its the second urban "full service" grocery store in the state. Deep Roots is sort of like Whole Foods meets Trader Joe's except its a local based store.

The store will be an incentive for anyone looking to move into the upscale Greenway at Fisher Park apartments across the street. Its a way of creating a livable pedestrian friendly downtown.

I went to Deep Roots this evening. I was very impressed and it really is a true grocery store, not like some of these downtown convenience stores in many cities that sell a little produce and call their stores grocery stores. Deep Roots has top quality foods. The pizza was delicious. It is a little pricey in there and store reminds me of a smaller Whole Foods. But people who live downtown also tend to have more disposable income. Its not cheap to live downtown whether you live in an apartment or a condo.
