Lady Celeste 68 Report post Posted April 2, 2013 Aerotropolis Atlanta is a planned mixed use development in Hapeville/Atlanta on the site of the former Ford Motors Assembly plant. The site is It has excellent visibility to I-75 and adjacent to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The old Ford plant was purchased by Jacoby Development, Inc. (the same group who developed Atlantic Station) in June of 2008 for a little over $40 million. Then the Recession intensified which stymied redevelopment. In 2011 Porsche North America announced that it would relocate its North American headquarters from Sandy Springs, GA to the new development. They plan to spend $100 million on a new office building and test track. They have since broken ground which was a great boost for the redevelopment of the land. Lady Celeste 68 Report post Posted April 2, 2013 Now we have new potential news for Aerotropolis Atlanta! German Automaker Volkswagen is considering a move of some type to Aerotropolis Atlanta. Speculation abounds but since I don't deal in those, we will wait for the speculation to be sifted out. What we do know is that talks to bring office space and up to 100 employees to the development is in advance talks. They may be merely waiting for approval from the German government. Volkswagen has a new assembly plant 130 miles north of the site in Chattanooga. This would definitely cement the aerotropolis as a burgeoning market. With great access and visibility from I-75, located about 6 miles south of downtown as well as visible to the 95+ million passengers who land at the world's busiest airport, it's hard to go wrong. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution German automaker Volkswagen is in talks to open an operations center with about 100 employees at the site of the former Ford plant in Hapeville, according to people with knowledge of the negotiations.A deal would boost redevelopment of the so-called “Aerotropolis” site just east of the Atlanta airport’s runways, where Volkswagen’s sports car unit, Porsche, already plans a new North American headquarters. The people familiar with the negotiations described the potential Volkswagen facility as a new corporate office, not a consolidation.Volkswagen’s parent company, Volkswagen AG, acquired the Porsche car making business last year. Volkswagen AG controls several other brands, including Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti. One person with knowledge of the situation said negotiations are “far along,” and are pending approval of German government officials. The government of the German state of Lower Saxony is a partial owner of Volkswagen AG.A move by Volkswagen would not only put it next door with one of its marquee brands, but the site is also about 130 miles from Volkswagen’s massive plant in Chattanooga, where it makes Passat sedans.Executives and managers also would have ready access to flights to much of the world, including manufacturing sites in the U.S., Mexico and South America.http://www.ajc.com/news/news/local/v...airport/nW9Hm/ It's a wait and see game but I'm sure as more news about Porsche, Volkswagen or other potential developments at Areotroplis Atlanta are available, they will be posted here. Lady Celeste 68 Report post Posted April 15, 2014 Porsche Cars tops off its North American HQ Porsche Cars North America has topped off its new HQ located on One Porsche Dr at Aerotropolis Atlanta. Located next to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the $100 million, 28-acre headquarters facility will even feature a 16 mile test track. The facility is scheduled to officially open later this year. The new facility will house 400 employees...100 of which will be new to Georgia. From a marketing point of view, this will be an excellent location. It has been reported that the facility will be ablaze with a huge PORSCHE sign. This sign will be visible to many of the 94+ million passengers who land or take off at Hartsfield-Jackson every year. Talk about getting your bang for your marketing buck! It's an interesting design to say the least but Porsche has been a very good corporate citizen. Now if we could just get Porsche's München brethren to move their NA headquarters to the Aerotropolis too. They would be much closer to their factories.
