I've got good and bad news about the future...

Recommended Posts

My friends, logical as you all are, I don't expect you to believe me. That said, I'm sending this message from fifty years in the future.

The good news: The United States still exists, as does Shreveport-Bossier. Our metro area now stretches from Minden, LA to the east all the way to Marshall, TX to the west. The population of Shreveport is estimated at approximately 125,000 people, and Bossier City is estimated to be at 160,000 people.

The bad news: things took a bad turn about 25 years ago that caused a downturn in the local gambling market. There are currently four casinos still operating in this area: Ceasar's (formerly Horseshoe), Margaritaville (which has been an amazing tourism draw for this area), Boyd's Orleans (formerly Sam's Town) and Celebrity (formerly Eldorado). The other two riverfront casino properties ended up closing over a number of years, but at least the hotels were salvaged. The old Boomtown hotel was given a facelift and is now a Marriott property. The casino pavilion has been transformed into an indoor amusement center called Game Zone, which is similar to Dave & Buster's.

You'll be happy to know that we do also have a Dave & Buster's. Originally it was built on Kings Highway, around the corner from Youree Drive. But since that area went downhill, the Dave & Buster's has relocated to Benton, which is now a city of about 25,000 people. Everything is in Benton now.

Feel free to ask me questions. If I don't have answers, I'll try to find out. I'll be popping in and out of this time period. For now, though, I'm going to take a quick trip to the early 1900s in order to get a feel for a much earlier Shreveport.

Thanks for the head's up on the future.  Sad to see Shreveport has only 125,000...but WOW! Impressive for Bossier City at 160,000! Did Texas legalize gambling have anything to do with the downturn?? How is the Globalization-thing working a.k.a. the New World Order?? Is the RDIF implant still voluntary?? Or is it mandatory now??

How's the trip to the early 1900's so far?? Are there any paved roads yet?? Wasn't the Dixie Overland Hwy(Route 80) coming along by then??
