Here's a quick photo update from yesterday evening.  The entirety of the East Main and Liberty intersection has been curbed.  It will be a big improvement for pedestrians crossing the street; much shorter distances.  Looks like the curb work will start moving toward Church Street now.

The curb work is moving west.  They're just past that little parking lot now.  There's a Deeproot Silva Cell being installed at Liberty, which the City is using with all new street trees to help them grow better.  And they're preparing to put down bricks there, too.  I have to say, it looks like it will be tough for them to finish by July 4.  I'm sure this 95+ degree weather isn't helping.

Also, concrete forms have been poured for 4 of the mini putt holes.

Apparently crews ran into more trouble underground, but they're still hoping to reopen the street by July 4.  Then they'll move on to fixing the sidewalks, which should be done by mid-July.  I have to say, they've been hauling this week.  The curbing is almost all the way to Church Street, several of the bulb-outs are ready for trees, and brickwork is done on 2 of the Liberty corners.

East Main is still closed and unpaved, so they're definitely behind schedule.  But work is starting on leveling the sidewalks, and it looks like a few of the new LED streetlights have been installed.  I'll have to check them out at night sometime to see the difference in brightness.

The mini putt course is coming along well.  It's being painted, and the holes were just drilled.  This will be really fun.  Can't wait!

Edit: And just after I post this, the City posts on FB that E Main is being paved.

Do you know what species of trees will be planted along the street?

The new streetlights are much brighter and whiter that the old ones.  (I think they already put some new ones on Magnolia Street, too.)

And the City posted that they're currently putting in a brick mid-block crossing (similar to the one by Morgan Square, I presume).  I wish it was a "speed table" instead (at the level of the sidewalk to slow traffic), but this is better than just paint.

East Main has reopened, though some work will continue until next Friday.  They still have to finish rebricking the sidewalks, replacing the streetlights, and putting down a final coat of asphalt.  The discovery of badly deteriorated storm drainage pipe slowed the work significantly and expanded the scope to include replacing all curb and gutter in the block, running conduit to accommodate utilities in the future, and repaving the block between Liberty & Converse.  Trees won't be planted until November (if you planted them now, they'd die).

They put down the final coat of asphalt today.  Just have to paint lines (and finish replacing the streetlights), and it will finally be done.  It looks really good.  I hope the extension of "Morgan Square-quality" aesthetics will help these storefronts get filled. (Aside: fewer are empty than you might think, but many of the tenants are less than ideal.)  Also, it looks like they put in crape myrtles temporarily, until the real trees are planted in the fall.  That's a good idea.  Keeps it from looking too desolate.

The street itself is now complete.  The City posted a bunch of photos today.  Still need to finish replacing the streetlights.   It will be nice to see it next summer once the permanent trees are in and growing (of course, it will take a good 8-10 years of tree growth to really look fantastic like Morgan Square does now).  But it already looks much better.

It looks a million times better! I like that they used a concrete ribbon and real bricks for the crosswalk, and that they've planted some temporary trees.

While this is sort of technical - those accessible parking spaces don't appear to be ADA compliant. I hope they don't have to rip them out and start over.

Quick update: a few weeks ago the City installed benches at most of the landscaped bulb-outs.  And just the other day, they finally installed the new LED streetlights! (Church to Converse)  That will make the street look so much better and brighter at night.  Still haven't planted the permanent trees, but they basically have all winter to do that.

And not really Main Street specific, but the ice skating rink on Morgan Square is now open!

I thought that the city was going to replace the new Crepe Myrtles on East Main St. with larger trees like Oaks.  It is my understanding that the best time for 'planting' trees is late fall/early winter. Does anyone know the status of that? Thanks in advance.
