Bad news, GRdad. Looks like a new crane is up and its a big one. Not a tower crane.

 

There's no way that crane is tall enough to reach 12 stories. I didn't, however, see any foundation for a tower crane(s) yet from a 25 Ottawa vantage point today. There's still hope!

Big cranes are used to erect tower cranes.  But I don't see a foundation for a tower crane at this job site either.

Yes. I would say based on this flythrough and the renderings I've seen, those concrete columns to the right are the outermost supports for the West side of the building.

Jeez, sometimes you can't see your nose in front of your face. There's a tower crane base already on the site, right in the middle.

 

 

If that's the only one, it will have quite the span on it, maybe 180 feet?

No, I know. I just don't see much detail from the roof of my work. Saw a large crane and figured that was it.

Sometimes yes but they're still assembling and it's pretty gusty out. Pics coming. They're about to hoist the main boom.

Last shot before I had to take off. I do think they may wait until tomorrow. That wind was really gusting and even blew over some of the fencing.

 

That's the boom (or load jib as the experts call it), the big long yellow thing they assembled this afternoon. I think it's at least 100' long.

Nice.  I love seeing tower cranes in my hometown!    Anybody keeping up with my Austin posts should know I'm a huge tower crane nerd.

Bummed that I had to miss the final assembly this morning, but here it is. Quite a wing span on this puppy! Almost reaches 25 Ottawa.

This project has reached a new milestone: you can see the rebar sticking up above the s-curve as you're driving North, which is still just parking deck. It's also now taller than the community foundation next door.

Seems like it stalled out a bit at this level. Maybe it's a complex set of floors. Or maybe it's just my imagination.

Meritage is seeking a liquor license request from the DDA for "The Wheelhouse" on the ground floor of this project, at 55 Ottawa. Not sure if the name had been mentioned before?
