Manufactured housing

This article titled "How the Trailer Park Could Save Us All" is worth a read. The author makes a decent if not airtight case for how manufactured/prefab/modular/etc. homes could be a boon for aging boomers. Low cost of living, pride of ownership, independence and tight-knit communities that depend more on each other than government programs are all possible benefits. Such communities located near urban centers with good public transport could be growth drivers as millions of Americans retire over the next couple of decades. I could see these types of communities tastefully integrated into traditional intown neighborhoods being good not just for the residents but also for the social fabric of communities, as opposed to just building more nursing homes in the suburbs and shipping our parents and grandparents off to stare at the wall and eat mush from the cafeteria.
