Here's a photo I took today. The structure is almost gone. It's kind of sad but exciting as a new era begins for a new hotel that will go up.

I rode my bike by on Memorial Day. The tower is all gone. Looks like they're going to incorporate the entryway to the beach club with the domed roof, but everything else is rubble.

Bruce Thompson's officially announced his plans to reroute Atlantic Avenue to restore the grand Cavalier lawn, creating a large-scale green space/public park.

I'm not going to lie. I wasn't real excited about the idea of this project a couple years as the deals were being made. But the architecture behind this building is pretty darn cool.

Aw man, having this much dense residential down by the water could do a lot to change the fabric of that part of town. Looking forward to this!

The developers continue to run into unexpected obstacles costing 20 million more than estimated and taking longer than originally anticipated. The renovations for the hotel are scheduled to be finished in April 2017 as of now, the residential aspect is still on schedule.

I think that they underestimated the state of the structure. They should have had a larger contingency fund.

This is a mistake is on them and I don't think that the city should bail them out.

It kinda feels like Bruce is to "The Strip" what Buddy Gadams is to downtown Norfolk.

It also gives credence to the argument of preferential treatment that was put forth by thevHyatt folks and Bruce Smith.

By the way, Dave Hansen told me that Mr. Mayor has recused himself from the gap financing matter going forward because Towne Bank might possibly provide some of the financial backing for this project.
