Little Mekong District - St. Paul

A stretch of University Avenue in St. Paul has recently been branded as the Little Mekong district.  The district is Minneapolis - St. Paul's equivalent to a Chinatown or Little Italy.  Little Mekong was chosen after the Mekong River, which flows through the East Asian countries represented in the neighborhood's population, including China, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.  The new Central Corridor light rail line (Green Line) will run through the district, which stretches five blocks between Mackubin and Galtier and is home to over 100 small businesses, most of which are Asian owned (over 70%).  

 

As of the 2010 Census, the central cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul had a combined Asian population of over 69,000.
