It sounds likely that the Office of Management and Budget will change the federal definition of Metropolian area. The size of the core city requirement is likely to be changed from at least 50,000 to 100,000. If this happens later in the year then NC will have three of its metros (Rocky Mount, Goldsboro and New Bern) will change from metro area to Micropolitan areas.
