More Accolades for Nashville

Nashville Brewing Co.’s “Original Lager” recently won a gold medal for the second year in a row at the Can Can Awards in the Munich Helles category

The Can Can Awards, which is focused solely on canned craft beers, this year was held in late June in Atlanta. More than 628 beers were entered from 168 breweries.

The S.E.C. (Southeastern Conference) announced today that it will have it's 2021 Football Media Days at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.  This is a. major media event in the sports world.The four-day interview-fest annually attracts more than 1,000 media members from across the country and features the head coach and three players from each of the SEC’s 14 football programs. It is usually held in mid-July.

“We are appreciative of the SEC in giving Nashville an opportunity to host the 2021 SEC Football Media Days for our first time ever,” Scott Ramsey, president and CEO of the Nashville Sports Council, said in a release. “We are excited about showcasing Music City and the new Grand Hyatt at the Nashville Yards to attending media, SEC fans, and the national broadcast audience.”

Charity Navigator, an assessment organization that evaluates U.S. charities and nonprofits, has given Nashville Zoo a score of 100 in its most recent assessment. 

According to Charity Navigator’s scoring system, less than 1 percent of the thousands of charities and nonprofits rated by the organization receive a perfect score of 100. The score is a combination of scores for an organization’s financial health, accountability and transparency.

CMA Fest in June generated a record $65 million in direct visitor spending during its sold-out our-day run.  This is an increase of 6% over last year's record. 84% of the crowd was from out-of-town. 51% said they were first-time attendees. 67% stayed at hotels, 16% at AirBnB type rentals.  On a scale of 1-10, 9.4 said they were likely to recommend the event next year. Average length of stay was 5 days.   All 50 states were represented (the top six were Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New York). of the 37 countries that had attendees, the top markets included Canada, Australia, England, Germany, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, India and Switzerland.

Pre-sales for next year's Fest are outpacing recent years.

It's funny how this genre of articles always cite luck as a major factor in Nashville's growth but the specific examples (in this case, not having a state income tax and dropping zoning restrictions downtown) have nothing to do with luck.

Nashville is ranked the 3rd most popular food destination in the U.S. (behind Chicago and Philadelphia) in a new survey of 1,000 respondents a VacationRenter's website.

The American Institute of Architects has awarded E. Bronson Ingram College, the newest residential hall at Vanderbilt University, top honors in the 2019 AIA Gulf States Honor Awards.

AIA noted the structure’s use of traditional elements to blend the modernity of the building with the historical context of campus. AIA also complimented the ornamental work and use of light.

Freightwise, a software company specializing in managing freight shipments based out of Brentwood, was ranked #2 on this year’s Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies. They finished with $33.6 million in revenues, up 30,000% from their start in 2015.

Never been to Bruges, but if anyone wants a new movie to watch, consider "In Bruges".

Great drama / dark comedy- and the movie shows how incredible of a city Bruges is. I definitely want to visit one day.

Nashville's commercial real estate market grew by 2 points in the first quarter of 2019, and by 6 points in the second quarter. This takes the index to a 190 point high on Colliers Vitality Index report.  Office investment in the first half of 2019 exceeded $660 million, with is higher than the past three years during the same stretch.  

“The vitality of Middle Tennessee’s commercial real estate industry shows no signs of slowing down,” Janet Miller, Colliers International | Nashville CEO and market leader, said in a release. “While virtually every business leader in the country is speculating about a potential decline of the economic cycle, Nashville continues to accelerate.”

When I lived in Brussels I would go to Bruges quite a bit.  It's a great place, a city you don't mind getting lost in.  I'm going back in March and again in May and will share some pictures.  In some ways Bruges is a better place to visit than Brussels, especially if all you want is to experience fantastic Belgian food.  Bruges is a very easy-going city, and the voters are correct that it's a very friendly place.  If I lived there, I'd never be in a bad mood, either.

Sao Paulo - nicest muggers in the world.  The pick pockets are so polite, you hardly notice their presence.  But seriously, I don't know how a city with that much crime made it so high in the list.

Very positive to be in that list of cities. Nashville’s definitely a vibrant city that most of the young people I know love.

Cortney and Dave Wilson, the masterminds behind "Master of Flip" on HGTV, are going to launch another new show based in Nashville for the same network. Scott Brothers Entertainment (Drew and Jonathan of "Property Brothers") are the production company.

You can downvote it if you like, but @ruraljuror has a point.  Nashvillians really don't have a lot of room to throw stones in regards to crime, unfortunately.  Whenever a Nashvillian looks at me aghast when I tell them I live in Chicago now, and ask me how I can live in such a "dangerous place," I relish the opportunity to then point out to them that actually, Nashville has a higher violent crime rate than Chicago.
