NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt will be broadcast live from Nashville this Thursday, Nov. 4th as part of his "Across America" series.

Holt and NBC plan to put the Opry in the spotlight during Thursday’s broadcast – specifically, Saturday’s historic 5,000th performance of the legendary radio show. They’re also sitting down with Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley to talk about The Store, a nonprofit enabling food-insecure Tennesseans to shop for groceries.

Holt will lead a piece about “how Nashville is managing the fallout that kids and schools have been facing from the pandemic… that's a story we're going to tell through eyes of Nashville, but of course, the whole country has struggled with this particular issue during the pandemic.”

A new RE/MAX study shows that the average home price in the Nashville area is now $405,000, the first time it has crossed the $400,000 line.

Jeff Checko, the director of relocation at the Ashton Real Estate Group, the Nashville RE/MAX Advantage office, said the number was a “surprising surge” from just a few years ago.

“The median home price just 10 years ago was $155,000, and in 2016 was only $250,000. Despite being among the most trendy and sought-after places to live, Greater Nashville is still considered affordable compared to America’s largest cities,” Checko said in a press release.

He said part of the cause is the city’s lack of housing inventory, which is down 30% from last year. The same study concluded Nashville has less than two month’s worth of housing inventory.

The author does realize that "average" and "median" are not the same thing, right?

I was shocked even in my neighborhood as last year the homes were selling in the high two hundreds and now a home was just listed in the very high 300's. The last home in this subdivision sold for around 315 in July and now this is sort of shocking.

Some person will move in from California and not even bat an eye and buy it.

I don't understand this obsession among some for blaming former Californians for the increase in housing costs here in Nashville. Most of our growth is the product of natural increase or people moving here from other places in TN. Even among those moving from out of state, more move here from AR or GA (and several other states) than CA.
