^^That thing gives me a very "dystopian" feeling.  Scary.

That's what I like about it.  Seems appropriate for a Federal Courthouse.

Salt Lake City's new (2014) federal courthouse. I would say it is in the "Nouveau Brutalist" style. They, too, had to wait twenty years for funding.

I would call it Borg Cubism.

I'd say that it's not a bad concept, since those "textured" walls are actually grids of glass-and-aluminum windowing, conferring that "Trans-Lux" appearance suggestive of the upper portion of Nashville's Pinnacle Tower.  This design also harvests a vast amount of natural daylight   In some respects, it beats the designs of most Nashville generic boxes ─ just one man's opinion.  This structure may be generic in outline, but it's built with much more than what meets the eye at a glance.

Yeahh I'd rather have that SLC design than whatever Nashville gets. I already know the design for this building is gonna be a boring box that looks like it was designed in 5 minutes, that's just how Nashville is.

Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

I have seen self storage facilities better looking than that "thing".

I've seen refrigerator boxes that are better looking.  Talk about brutal.

The symbolism of that building of justice is ironic (IMHO)... JAIL!  I think it's hideous.

Yeah...but they'll dig a deep hole and let it fill up with water first.

Just imagine...before too long we could become the public swimming hole capital of the world!

Well....this must be the first of many 'demolition' nights. They managed to 'chew' just 1/2 half of the exterior wall shown in the picture. Nothing like shutting down 8th North (Rosa Parks) and Church Street over multiple nights instead of just 1 day...

Ugh. I see it, and it appears the design was inspired by Judge Dredd, the dystopian movie Stallone was in back in '95.

^damn thats an ugly building. Hope the courthouse actually gets a good design (doubt it knowing the track record of this city) but i still hold hope.

And 2021?? 5 years of construction, is that needed for a 5 story building?

Is there an updated rendering yet?

Demo is being handled by "Two men and a truck", unfortunately, they are also doing the old jail, so only 1 man is working with a truck, at night .... this might take awhile ...

...back to your regularly scheduled program

This is an extremely frustration demo to live and work near. The incessant eating away of the building....sometimes lasting until 2AM is bad enough....but they also close Church street and 8th North in our block without notice. The snail's pace of this demo explains the 5-year construction timeline of the Courthouse..... government!

Was this demo planned by the same group that decided to move the NYE celebration to the Bicentennial Mall location....? We may never know.

Once the demolition is complete, will construction commence on the courthouse, or could we have further delays?
