It is. I don't even know where I read it now, but I know that one of the requirements is a parking structure with hundreds of spaces. I saw the exact number somewhere and it is a ton.

The tax credit awarded stipulated that they had to build a minimum 600 space parking ramp:

Agreed. Maybe even split the 300 space between the two. Lazy question: When are they announcing what is going on with the two developable lots?

Don't know, but I did find a couple more renderings of the project while looking. It looks squatty. Wish it were something like at least 12 stories..

Got some pics from ground level today. Side story: as I was standing near the corner of Monroe and Michigan where there's a downtown Grand Rapids map that the DDA made a few years ago, a woman was standing looking at it and holding a bunch of papers. Clearly frustrated (and lost). I asked her if she needed help, and she muttered that she needed to go to Target in very broken English (she was Asian, well dressed). I said that Target was nowhere near downtown. She showed me a piece of paper where someone had meticulously written out directions to Target on Alpine, probably assuming that she was driving there. I told her it was at least 9 or 10 miles away and that she couldn't walk there, not in 84 degrees and with heels on.

I said that she could probably take a bus or cab to Target, and I sent her to the Amway Grand Plaza and told her to go to the desk there for help. I felt bad for her and "almost" offered to give her a ride there, but then I thought that might open a whole can of worms (how would she get back to downtown?). She looked harmless enough. Hopefully she made it and got to Target...

(FYI I did not think it was one of those scams where someone's car is broken down, because she did not solicit my help or ask for money)

Anyway...

As mentioned they're only framed up to the top of the 3rd floor and it's at least half as tall as the Rowe. I think MSU will be a bit taller than I imagined, especially with the large 7th floor penthouse level.

Trees, lots of trees, I like it. Would make a great place for a brewery.

The #9 bus goes straight to Target, and this map indicates the nearest stop on Pearl by the AGP.

This trip planner understood the simple locations of 300 Monroe and Target.

You should have told her to wait 5-7 years and the Laker Line could have got her closer, and then she could have caught the #57 connector. Or told her to wait 10 years and Target could have sent a drone to drop off everything on her list. ;)

Joe

Ha. I should've told her the big skeleton of steel going up across the street was going to be an Urban Target. Should be open soon.

Uhh, thanks. Doesn't help me now. :)

(Rapid bus goes to suburban location from DT, found on Rapid's trip planner web feature)

Using the trip planner was enlightening for me, since I generally plan non-driving trips around cycling or friends dropping me off. It was not possible to take the bus to my old job (in Cascade Twp, not one of the six cities). For the past seven years I've suggested that ArtPrizers park & ride, without realizing what a straight shot the #9 is.

There are so many threads and comments on here about the ITP. Raising awareness is incremental; might be a handful more folks who can use this information to help our visitors.

Google Maps also has great transit directions: Select the transit option from the navigation screen (same screen that you would use for driving directions). I have a few shortcuts set up on my phone so with one click I can see which bus I should take to get home/work (there are three lines that I can take, so it depends on the schedule down to the minute).

I also use Transit App, which has a better UI for showing which buses are nearby. The Rapid has their own proprietary app on iOS, but I haven't had an opportunity to try it.

OK, I like steel construction so just bare with me if you don't like all the pictures :)  I was right, the front (South) part of the building will be as tall as The Rowe older portion, while the Northern part of the building "may" reach as tall as the new part of the Rowe (being added today). It was like a steel raising party out there today between the two projects.

Some very odd interesting trench or footing being dug at the far Eastern end of the site.
