MLBrumby 4404 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 Tony Giarratana's new mixed-use proposal with office, residential at corner of 4th Avenue and Demonbreun in SoBro, to lure HQ of international firm. http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2013/09/giarratana-talking-with-global-company.html
nashvillwill 1412 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 I'm a little perplexed. Wouldn't something like this be ideal for 505?
arkitekte 478 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 I'm a little perplexed. Wouldn't something like this be ideal for 505? For real. I thought that was the entire purpose of 505. However, this design would probably be a lot cheaper than 505.
satalac 600 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 However, this design would probably be a lot cheaper than 505. I'm thinking this is the case. The article also sounds like the SoBro may actually happen and soon. Our skyline may be stretching it's legs south rather quickly if both happen.
dmillsphoto 2991 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 I agree about the upbeat-ness of the article. Definitely curious to see what happens here. The only issues I have with the potential placement of such a building is that it stacks the SoBro skyline along Demonbreun. I'd rather see it spread out a little, but I understand that Tony has to work with what he's got.

Hey_Hey 1726 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 In my opinion, the most positive thing about this article isn't necessarily the announcement of a potential corporate relocation and office tower. Instead it's that Sobro will start construction in the next 3-4 months. Don't get me wrong, the impact of a corporate relocation and new high rise would be immense in terms of the Nashville economy and skyline. However, it's only a proposal and I'm not getting my hopes up too much. If this article is to be believed, Sobro is now moving forward and will start soon which moves it past just "proposed." PHofKS 5068 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 Hopefully, the curvilinear aspect will be a continuation of the curve of the façade of the Country Music Hall of Fame. It would create a nice inviting corner entrance across from the park.
volsfanwill 1035 Report post Posted September 20, 2013 that article was incredibly upbeat, there are basically 3 big announcements in it. 1. the sobro should start before the end of the year 2. an international company moving its HQ to downtown, it doesnt say really if it will be a local company or a new one. but id say it kind of implies one relocating to Nashville, this is huge news 3. 41 floors! will we finally break the 33 floor glass ceiling? BnaBreaker 5506 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) Perkins & Will has a pretty impressive resume', and they certainly aren't afraid to push the envelope, as evidenced by this beast they designed in Mumbai called Antilia: I'm not saying I would necessarily want that as a part of the Nashville skyline, but you have to admit it is exciting architecture. I won't call it exciting. Very different...and not in a bad way...but really the type of thing you can only get away with in certain types of cities. Not that Nashville doesn't need something to push the envelope (I think the majority of us support 505 and think that type of thing does push it quite a bit, certainly on the local end). To me, and in that location...it doesn't have to be edgy as much as it needs to be original and unique to the area. Modern, like the MCC...but not necessarily "out there" like the tower posted above. Hopefully the design will be something we can all (or most of us) get behind.
fieldmarshaldj 2078 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 ^Please don't let it remotely resemble that monster. I'd rather have that hideous guitar skyscraper.
chris holman 4495 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Exciting news! Here's another tower done by Perkins-Will I believe is more our taste in design impressive, http://www.skybridgechicago.com/aia_article.htm Im just concerned how many projects can Tony G handle at once and how many will we actually see built. fieldmarshaldj 2078 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 I'd rather see something in neo-Second Empire or neo-Art Deco, something to compliment the nearby Symphony Hall. None of this modernist crapola.
satalac 600 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 I wouldn't worry about the two designs shown. The first one if memory serves me is actually a private residence of a very wealthy person. That second design is for residential and too skinny for a commercial floorplan. I am interested in seeing what is proposed however.

Yeah largest private residence on earth I believe, and last I read owner hadn't moved in because feng shui was wrong.
BnaBreaker 5506 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Did people miss the part where I said I wouldnt want that tower in Nashville? I am just using that to suggest that maybe we can finally get an interesting tower design for once, not just another blue glass box.
satalac 600 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 I understood what you were getting at BnaBreaker. This architect definitely isn't afraid to take risks and that could be a good thing to spice up our skyline.
musiczealot 27 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Is it possible on that lot to fit the 505 design? And then perhaps the scaled down version of Signature can go on the Church Street lot? A man can dream!

bigeasy 1128 Report post Posted September 21, 2013 So is this just another Giarratana proposal that will never happen? I kinda wish he would just get one of them started before going onto the next high-rise.
