- One airfield

- Four runways

- Two terminals: Terminal 1 (Lindberg) and Terminal 2 (Humphrey)

- Nonstop markets: 114 domestic, 21 international

- Foreign Flag Carriers - 3, Air Canada, Air France, Icelandair

- 129 Gates: Terminal 1 (119), Terminal 2 (10)

- Home airport for Sun Country Airlines, Compass Airlines, and Pinnacle Airlines

- Tram Systems: the Hub Tram and the C Concourse People Mover

- Hiawatha light rail line (Blue Line) connects MSP International to downtown Minneapolis, the Mall of America and several other locations.

 

The light rail station for Terminal 1 is located 70 feet below the active airfield where two 1.8-mile long tunnels had to be bored.  The Terminal 2 station is above ground, within walking distance to the terminal.

 

The Hub Tram is an underground tram that connects the Lindbergh Terminal and the Hub Building where travelers can find rental car service counters, a transit center and a light rail station

 

The C Concourse People Mover (tram) connects Concourse D to Concourse A along Concourse C.

MSP International Expansion

 

Phase I (Terminal 2):

* Terminal 2 will add 26 more gates to accommodate more airlines 

* Improvement of parking and access roads.

* The expansion will allow Terminal 1-Lindbergh to be reserved to Delta Air Lines and its partners.

* All other airlines will be moved to Terminal 2-Humphrey.

 

Phase II (Terminal 1):

* A new international arrivals facility 

* Renovation of Concourse E

* Expansion of Concourse G

* Extension of the underground tram system

* The baggage claim area will be installed with advanced baggage claim systems. 

* Development of a new hotel 

* Addition of two more parking ramps

* Significant changes to the roadway system.

* Expansion will increase Terminal 1 gates from 119 to as many 135.

 

* First two phases are currently under environmental review.

 

* Phase III and IV will come later.

Update:

MSP International Hotel Proposal

* The Metropolitan Airports Commission is planning a large hotel at the southeast corner of the airport.

* High-end, 250 rooms

* Will have direct skyway access to Terminal 1 (Lindberg Terminal)

Graves Hospitality had been chosen as developer for the new hotel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.  They released the first rendering of their proposal this morning.

 

Details:

* 9 stories

* 300 rooms

* Connected to Terminal 1 via skyway

* Will have its own security checkpoint

* Spa

* Restaurant 

* Meeting spaces

* Observation deck bar and lounge

* Parking ramp below

 

* The company hopes to have the hotel up and running by the time Minneapolis hosts the Super Bowl in 2018.
