Does Rob Ford Show Us Why We Should Resist Consolidation?

Recommended Posts

This is one of the more interesting summaries of how a place like Toronto ended up with someone like Rob Ford in charge:

The next time the Sentinel starts beating the drum for consolidation again, I'm sure it will come to mind.

I don't think a consolidated Orange County would create as drastic a political realignment as the Toronto amalgamation.  Orange County has turned decidedly blue over the past 20 years, and there's usually been a friendliness towards downtown interests of the county commission, outside of the more Tea Party commissioners that are becoming more of a minority; I would be more concerned if the proposal included merging Seminole County with Orange County.
