From the article: "Demolition and excavation costing roughly $10.6 million will begin by the end of next month. The excavation work to create a public parking garage will include digging down 26 feet from the lowest level of the old convention hall, which was rendered obsolete by opening of the Music City Center... Among new information revealed Tuesday, the 26-story, 385,000 office tower at Fifth + Broadway will be named after its address at 501 Commerce."

Is this tower going to be about the same height as 222 2nd?

Can't say why, but I suspect this one will be 30-40 feet taller... I just base that on greater floor count, including a taller top floor and lobby and sub-lobby levels. If the rendering is true, the 25 floors starts right above the lobby. So total floor count from the south side would approximate more a 28 story building.

While it would be great if the the towers were taller, what this project lacks in height it makes up for in new amenities and scale downtown many times over. Those renderings look fantastic, I am eager to see this get going.

They haven't been many close up renderings of the residential tower. I wonder if everything we have seen so far is only conceptual? And with the office tower I don't think it's so bad. Something does look different about it though. Isn't this location on higher elevation than 222 2nd Ave.? I guess by the time I make it home in July the old CC will be gone. Can't wait to see this rise!

Crazy to think I was just in the CC (or what I thought was the CC) a few weeks ago for a conference. I suppose we were one of the last to use it.

They will get some of it, if not all, because the section on Commerce closest to the Renaissance  is not going to be demolished.

I'm really hoping that the main rendering for the whole development is pretty accurate because it shows 501 Commerce and the apartment tower both being a bit taller than Renaissance, which is 385 feet.  That would mean they would both be close to 400 ft, 80-100 taller than 222 (plus sit at higher elevation).  Of course, the renderings may be a little off.

This is one of those legacy projects where height does not matter, the retail aspect being brought in alone is significant and not could, it WILL spur more retail development. This project will be used as a metric by many retailers to see how viable downtown Nashville is. You've got both a booming tourist element, exploding residential element, and healthy line of hotels for leisure and business travelers that will offer plenty of potential patrons to this development. 

This is a very unique development, something that I know a few folks in Austin are envious of because of the scale and location, in addition to the potential it can bring itself and in ancillary development nearby.

Yup, this will be another Arena or MCC type catalyst.  It will be a few years though.  Probably won't see much until after it is built and operational for awhile.

Oh ok. I can see the difference from the older renderings. I think I liked the office tower in the older rendering better. Anyways, this is going to be a great addition to downtown.
