Definitely hope they place large murals on those parking garages, as well.  Would kinda be cool if some of those murals were LED screens.

This is such an exciting and transformative project for Nashville. I don't remember when I've been so excited about a major project.

Trees are too tall and not boxy enough.

 

Kidding...Very excited about this and I think it will really transform the area. I would love for that whole area to have the median as well. (and to be closed to vehicle)

I agree. Even the last rendering makes the pavement of LoBro look more pedestrian friendly.

The NBJ article discussed that the developers are proposing to make 5th Ave from Broadway to Commerce a zero grade streetscape.    There would be no curbs and gutters - the sidewalks would flow seamlessly across the street between 5th & B and the Ryman - similar to stretch of 5th between the MCC and the Omni.      There are some engineering issues to overcome, like stormwater drainage, but the developers would like it to happen.    You can see what they mean in this image.

No kidding. It's Nashville's signature street and should be greened up a bit. Obviously it's no Michigan Avenue, but damn, that's so well done and feel that could be done here. It's a natural traffic calming thing and would add some color to the strip.

100% agreed, a stretch of grass and trees down Broadway would somewhat help ease the sensory overload of the neon and loud music. Of course a grassy median would undoubtedly become the new place for drunken tourists to -- ahem -- orally "regurgitate" a night of liquor and beer, but I'd prefer it land there than on the sidewalk.

Here's my pet peeve. I love how vibrant downtown Nashville is ... but I wish they would just clean the sidewalks every night ... other places have pressure cleaning machines that drive around at night and clean the sidewalks. Seems to me that should be basic blocking and tackling.

Write your council person and the mayor.   You raise a valid point, seriously.    We have crews that pressure wash the streets downtown every night, but sidewalks are left to the property owners and tenants.   I see some tenants who sweep the walks in front of their shops every morning and even pressure wash from time to time, but most do nothing.   Even well away from Lower Broad, many mornings on downtown sidewalks it's not uncommon to have to step around the remains of someone's excess partying from the night before.

The bulk of the old Nashville Convention Center will soon be razed to make way for mixed-use project Fifth + Broadway.

A permit, valued at $5.63 million, has been issued for the first step in the process.

The permit reads: “to conduct interior renovations to existing conference center space to include vertical transportation modifications, Structural modifications and rehab restroom areas in common space.”

The developers of 5^th + Broadway have landed a demolition permit related to the massive mixed-used project to be undertaking at the site of the Nashville Convention Center.

The permit is valued at $4.6 million.

Skanska is the construction manager for the project (read more here).

Opened in the mid-1980s, the convention facility has and address of 601 Commerce St.

Well this article from last week is interesting. It suggests that the residential tower will still be 34 stories (versus 32) and the office tower will actually be 26 stories (versus 25).
