This project seems to be moving very fast. Doesn’t seem like that long ago that the old CC was being torn down.  Do you guys think the retail area, food hall, and NMAAM will open before the office and residential towers are complete?

Perhaps some of the food and retail closest to the corner will open first.  Museums usually take a while to get prepped.  If entry points to get up to the Food Hall are blocked by construction work on the two towers, it may be delayed until a 'grand opening' of sorts for the whole enchilada.

There's an editorial in today's Tennessean lamenting the loss of a public plaza in this development's plans that would've allowed clear and unobstructed views of the Ryman.  It also questions the prominence of H&M at the apparent detriment of the National Museum of African American Music.

While I believe the Nashville Civic Design Center (NCDC) is a great 'brainstorming' resource for Nashville and its leaders, the impracticality of many of its 'plans' is obvious.

I have a copy of the 'Plan of Nashville', a book by the NCDC put put in the early 2000s. Many of the 'big picture' ideas have been incorporated, but on balance I would say Nashville's developmental success has benefited from a more organic and market driven approach... for example increased building heights.

Well showcased. And look, I love the Ryman but I'd argue putting a plaza there wouldn't even really work. It would kill the flow and atmosphere of any development especially one like this where the main purpose of it is to spark retail downtown. Double sided streetscape retail exists for a reason - it works economically and creates a sense of place. What would a plaza really provide at that location other than a bigger landing pad for Ryman selfies?  You already have a large plaza at the corner of Bridgestone. You just want big concrete pads dominating one of the most strategically important intersections in Nashville?

Agree.    A plaza is not necessary to view and appreciate an iconic building in an urban environment.      Take St. Patrick's Cathedral, one of the most iconic and most photographed buildings in NYC.     What is directly across the street from the cathedral?      Stupid old Rockefeller Center taking up the whole block (bottom photo).       The Rockefeller Center and its retail and public spaces arguably bring far more visitors into contact with the magnificent cathedral than would otherwise see it if there were an empty plaza across the street.
