^It also implied the Alliance-Bernstein HQ was a done deal...the finality of the deal was surprising.

He's been pretty matter-of-fact about that for awhile. I assume brokers are telling him that no one else is talking to them.

I assume the base of the apartment tower is now complete, and the actual tower portion is about to start rising? Is that accurate?

The apartment tower is the one along Broadway that is already up to the 7th floor, on it's way to 34 stories.  The office tower is the one that faces Commerce St. (the nearest element in this shot), and is just about to street level.  It will eventually be 25 stories.

Yes, I was referring to the actual tower portion of the apartment tower. The plans show a large boxy base, and a slimmer tower rising out of it. But if the base is 7 floors then it appears the actual tower portion is about to start.

That apartment tower would be one where I'd carefully choose my side of the building, my preference being west-facing because a lot of the noise on Broadway will be amplified and captured by the orientation of the apartment tower and office tower. So those east-facing units I would venture will be a lot more prone to all the raucous noises.

I’d prefer to be on the broadway side, see all the fun, and turn on my noise maker when I’m ready to sleep.

White noise machines can help but must be turned up loud to overcome that level of outside ruckus.  An air purifier also serves to mask some sound.  The problem with both of these is that they only address sound in a particular frequency.

I'm beginning a new noise reduction project in my condo in The Gulch - window plugs for the second bedroom.  The part toward the window is acoustical foam with ridges so that some of the sound bounces around and dissipates.  Mass loaded vinyl will arrive in the mail next week.  1 pound per square foot.  The acoustical foam is glued to that.  The other side of the MLV is glued to a foam insulation board (like you put on the side of a building between the studs and exterior finish) which gets glued to a 1/2" thick MDF board.  The back of that board can have handles attached for easy lifting, and can be painted black to reduce light.  I'll make 4 of these since I have 4 separate windows that total 11' in height.

Next project, build a soundproof door frame and door.  All suggestions are welcome.

Yeah, I use ear plugs and sleeping mask almost every night.  The best five bucks I ever spent, I think.  I just feel like I'm in my own little world.  The ear plugs drown out almost all street noise, but aren't so stifling that I can't hear my alarm in the morning.

Nice feature in today's NBJ about work on the 5th & Broadway site.  Included are these stats:

  • 9,700 cement mixers will pour their loads on-site (a third of those already have done so).
  • 7 million pounds of rebar are in place, which is less than half of the needed amount of those steel rods that reinforce concrete.
  • 225,000 pounds of explosives were used to get below-ground, where several levels of parking garages will be located, as well as most of the music museum space.
  • The three stationary tower cranes on-site each cost $22,000 per month to rent.
  • Demand for cranes in Nashville is so steep that Skanska USA ordered the first crane eight months before it was needed.
  • It costs $25,000 to raise a crane higher — a process that happens once or twice per crane.
  • The tallest crane will reach 540 feet, slightly taller than the height of the nearby 505 apartment and condo tower on Church Street.  More at NBJ here:

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but has the projected final official height been released for these guys? If not, is there a way to surmise an estimation of the buildings’ finished height based on what the final height of the tallest crane will be? (I apologize, but I am not proficient in skyscraper or tower construction.)

I need to start saving these Metro Documents as most of the time they have the elevation of the buildings. Once they leave Development Tracker and the Planning Department website, I have no idea how to access them. I am sure they are on  line somewhere, but that would be sweet to have the actual building heights and update WIKI and Emporis.

Many of Emporis heights are estimated instead of actual.
