Boxy or not, I'm glad that gross convention center was torn down and replaced by an office tower, apartment tower,  and a shopping/food area that brings more variety to the city. Not to mention a MUSIC museum right on Broadway. Also I'm glad it didn't take too many years to begin construction, and sit empty for decades. Silver linings.......

If West End Summit is finally built, will you complain that it's boxy, or will you say FINALLYYYY!!!!!

They'll probably beetch. I mean when you complain about the JW Marriott and the convention center nothing is off limits. I call it the beta male 30 day cycle.

This is going to add so much for broadway. I'm pretty sure the street traffic is going go up like crazy, pedestrians and cars. Especially with it having retail, office, and condo space.  I'm also noticing that Nashville is kind of looping  around the FAA rules, by building more mid sized buildings in a set instead of one really tall building.  I rather have density than a few tall towers anyways.

Today I was driving downtown and I kept thinking that as crowded as it was (and for a freaking Wednesday at like 4 it was insanely crowded on Church) it doesn’t even touch what it will be in 2-3 years. 5B is going to make it insane down there, the mixture of retail, museum, restaurants, office, and residential will make it an almost 24 hour spot.

I've noticed that too when I went back a couple weeks ago. It might end up like how Las Vegas is set up, but excluding the casinos. If investors were serious they can add a bunch of places similar to the diner on 3rd ave.  Imagine if they concentrated development near 3rd for all/late night gigs.

I agree in regards to lighting. It makes such a difference, and it’s what keeps the Westin from being a complete abomination to me. That’s actually a problem I have with the 505. Like I love the multicolored sign at street level, but the thing just disappears at night above the street. For being so prominent it really is forgettable at night.

I agree, a crown would have made 505 stand  out more.

I think 505 is forgettable in general, especially looking at it straight on from one of the "wide" sides. It looks ok from some angles at sunrise and sunset. Other than that, its height is really the only thing it's got going for it.

I'm still convinced they will light the top someday. I know they installed a multi-colored light bar all the way around the top rim because I watched them do it after testing one section!

I’d hope so as well but don’t you think it’s strange that if there is actually a colored light bar at the top, it would have been lit by now?

According to the NBJ today, Tom Morales and his company TomKats Hospitality Inc. will no longer operate the restaurant planned for that corner spot in the Fifth & Broadway development, so they might be shopping for a restaurant to take that prime spot -- thus keeping alive my dream of it eventually becoming the world's largest Chipotle.  :tw_yum:

I don't believe I have seen this particular photo before. The apartment tower has a different balcony configuration and the office tower parking garage looks different as well.

Does anyone know if this is the most recent rendering?

I prefer this image of "Leoni on 5th" although I imagine the facade depends on the tenant, but I'm disappointed about the balconies on the apartment building.  The old configuration looked terrifying!
