Have we seen the Hourigan project  from a south facing position yet?

I'm not sure - this one looks new. MAN - this development is going to be absolutely GORGEOUS once it's built out!  Holy wow - I'm salivating over these buildings (not to sound overly disgusting about it - but I think most of us feel the same way)...  Can you imagine Manchester's skyline in another three or so  years? Especially if Tom Papa is actually moving on South Falls II - and if Avery Hall can get everything pushed through with the city and can break ground on those two beauties on the Rivers Edge II site? I can't even find the words for how awesome this will be.

Demolition has started at the Plant Zero site.  They are tearing out the planters/flower beds today.    It will make room for heavy equipment.  The street (3rd)  isn’t blocked off yet but I assume that will happen soon.

SWEET!!

And fencing is all the way up at the Silos now? Any demo equipment on-site yet?

I keep forgetting to post/confirm, but from across the river it looks like a large crane has been active at the silos as of last week.

Engravement of names for this week's OFFICIAL 101426650_Screenshot(2877)-Copy-Copy.png.82517da9d19f23f8bec506d38f535e6e.png  trophy is still VERY much in play! (Just to throw in a little... ADDED... incentive!) :tw_wink:

Just had lunch with my family at Cafe Zata in Manchester, and, although I can't keep track of all the Manchester development, I think my kids and I were watching construction on the Commodore building. At least I think that's what it was. At any rate, it's coming along nicely.

My view from across the riva....A lot of movement in Manchester. image.thumb.png.97f4079a907cee96090bab50b9167b8a.png

Wowzers, @CitiWalker!! These are AWESOME shots! Thanks SO much for taking and posting! My friend, you're going to have an AMAZING front-row seat when the Avery Hall and Hourigan developments begin to rise as well as Tom Papa's South Falls II.

Gentlemen - I believe we have our first nominee for this week's RVA/UP "YOU DA MAN" AWARD - and the prestigious SILVER PORT-A-POTTY trophy.  :tw_thumbsup:

I haven’t noticed anything at the silos.

Demo is happening at Plant Zero though.  It’s slow going at the moment, I guess they’re doing surgical demo ahead of the wrecking ball.

The power lines have been physically cut away from the building.  The little plaza area was torn out (concrete planters separating the plaza from the street and the trees/plants have been razed) and now trucks are parked in that area along with a port-o-potty.

They probably have a TON of site work just in clearing out any remaining contents of the silos. We may laugh about "silo flatulence" (lots o methane produced by decomposing natural contents) - but it is a significant hazard and it would make sense that a tremendous amount of prep work needs to take place before the wrecking ball comes a swingin'.

When I was driving by, I noticed some large FULL construction dumpsters behind the Silos. I imagine they are gutting it first.

I thought that this is where the townhomes were going?  I guess that’s some other lot bordering the new traffic circle.

I think that's a different block in that end of Manchester. RBS is reporting that the developers who made this new purchase -- at the moment -- haven't announced what plans they might have.

A developer has filed building permits for the old Southside Hardware and adjoining building to rehab the ground floor retail and add 8 rental units above.

This is a classic example that TOTALLY debunks the fearmongering of the "Manchester Alliance" types who kvetch about all the apartments being constructed in lower Manchester (and ditto the over-the-top preservationists who spend way too much time and energy clutching pearls over the "character" of Manchester somehow being "harmed" by all the new construction the district is enjoying). Indeed, the more Manchester continues to boom with the influx of population and high-density development, the more likely we'll see life being breathed back into the old legacy storefronts along Hull Street south of Commerce Road that were long the hallmark of Hull but have been shuttered, in most cases, for decades. It'll be really cool to see these old retail blocks rise from the ashes as the newer, larger-scale construction continues (hopefully unabated and hopefully unrestrained) all around the district. What a fantastic -- URBAN -- blend of old and new! :tw_thumbsup:
