Anyone know what is slated for this lot back and across from Little Hardware?  Saw some soil testing being done, and it is a prime large lot begging for something cool to be built there.

^ Interesting, its been used for construction staging for quite a few years.

I suspect it can't be much other than housing due to difficult access.

NCDOT owns most of that land and it is where they plan to put the Charlotte Rail and Locomotive Maintenance Facility to support the Gateway Station and the Piedmont service.

The Gold District is getting really to grow with residents with 2 apartment complexes racing towards completion another one just started and at least 2 high rises planned in the area.  (Not including Riverside of course)   I saw plenty of single story buildings that could be redeveloped in the future in this area.

Looking good for the new Spectrum and Grubb apartment complexes and new brewery from Rocky Mount going into the old Unknown space.  Also spot a crane base for the new apartments going up  on S Church behind the Railyard.

Any High-Rises planned for the Gold District need to go through Rezoning or is most of the area close enough to a Transit Stop to be permitted by-right?  Seems like this area bulbs out and away from the BlueLine, whereas Southend Proper is more linear.  Just curious…

I checked out a website for the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, a park created and maintained to tell a story.

Whether or not Charlotte's gold rush is at the same scale as the Klondike Gold Rush, I think an intentional, purpose-driven park in our Gold District that uses park/plaza elements to tell a story about the historical significance of this location would be valuable to residents, to visitors, and would elevate placemaking.

the 3 big apartment developments underway in the Gold district and the new brewery Hopfly  taking the place of the Unknown brewery.  Today a few drive bys and mostly walk bys. 

and great to see a brewery coming from Rocky Mount in eastern NC to the big city of Charlotte.

Hoping First Presbyterian but betting (heavily) on the Catholics. Everyone wants to develop in SE area, that lot on West Trade is much less appealing in the current climate. FP is likely anxious to sell that lot though...

If they'd at least be as smart as The Methodists uptown, and either sell with rights to parking during church hours, or do long term leases.  Reminds me of that parable of the servant who buried his money,.

Spectrum and Grubb's apartments look great and so does the new brewery in the Unknown spot.   Look at that niche in the Spectrum project like it. 

Last photo is a retail upfit at the Railyard on the S Tryon side.  what is that I can't remember?  

and soon we can say " Rocky Mount in the house!" with Hopfly and I predicting an UP meetup here in the future.

I'm hoping with its eastern NC roots, Hopfly can be a gathering spot for wayward ECU Pirates when our football team comes to town to play the 49ers in their house or others at Bank of America stadium. They should at least fly a skull and crossbones!

On my next visit I am definitely going to go there to support them.
