I thought I would create a thread for this project.

 

The Metrodome tear down will begin after power is shut off on Jan. 18th.  The dome's roof will deflate in under 30 minutes.  Shortly after deflation, the tear down will begin at the same time the concrete foundation for the new stadium is being poured.

 

For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the Vikings will play at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

 

The stadium has already been named one of three finalists for the 2018 Super Bowl.  Officials have applied to host the Final Four championship in 2018, 2019, and 2020 as well as future College Football National Championship games.

Update:

 

The Metrodome's roof has been deflated, a process that took about 35 minutes after crews cut power, opened relief vents and 10 exterior doors.  Actual demolition of the Dome is now underway.

Update:

 

* The Metrodome's support cables have been demolished.  Crews attached 42 demolition charges to the cables and detonated them simultaneously.

 

* The first of several cranes has been assembled.

Update:

* One of the largest cranes in the world has started making its way to the stadium construction site today (Monday, June 30, 2014).

* It will take 70 truckloads and 10 days to deliver the crane's parts.

* 11 days to assemble and erect the crane

Update 1:

* The stadium is roughly 25% complete.

*  There are currently about 650 people working on site.

*  The number will increase to roughly 800 in January and 1,127 by next spring.

Minneapolis was chosen for this year's MLB All-Star game (Target Field) and the 2018 Super Bowl (new Vikings stadium).  Today the city was awarded the 2019 Final Four (new Vikings stadium).

I've been hearing a lot of chatter that Minneapolis-based US Bancorp will end up with the naming rights for the new stadium.

The first sheet of glass is on-site and ready to go up.  Each transparent glass sheet is 5 feet by 9 feet and some 10,000 sheets will form the exterior skin of the stadium.

Center: future site of the downtown east park (The Commons), which will include the parking lot and the building (one of the MPLS Star Tribune's former buildings - yes it will be torn down.  A new apartment building will also be built on this site.  Right: across from the parking lot is the Minneapolis Armory, which will be turned into a concert venue.

Update:

Minneapolis-based US Bancorp has bought the naming rights to the new Vikings stadium.  The stadium will be called U.S. Bank Stadium.

It's definitely an interesting looking stadium.  I personally like it, but right now it's really mixed - people either love or hate it.

It's been announced that U.S. Bank Stadium will host ESPN's X Games in the summers of 2017 and 2018.  The stadium will be hosting the 2018 Super Bowl and the 2019 Final Four as well.

The first event at U.S. Bank Stadium is underway. Chelsea and A.C. Milan are playing in front of a sold out crowd.  Unfortunately, I could not go as I just returned from a business trip.  Oh well.
